Hello, this is Woori Plastic Surgery.
Today, I’d like to talk about the timing of liposuction surgery. There is a question many people considering surgery often ask: “When is the best time to have it?” It’s not simply about asking for a date when surgery is possible. If you have important plans such as a trip, a wedding photoshoot, or a wedding, timing becomes something you need to think about carefully. In actual consultations, people often ask whether they can have surgery now if they are going on a trip for several days, or when it would be best to have surgery if they have a wedding photoshoot or wedding scheduled. Since the recovery process and level of satisfaction after liposuction surgery can vary depending on the timing, it’s important to know in advance.
Bruising, swelling, and the time needed for recovery

When discussing what to consider when deciding on surgery timing, the first is bruising and swelling. The length of time bruising or swelling lasts varies from person to person, but to be generous, you can think of bruising as almost completely gone after about 3 weeks. Major swelling usually subsides over the course of 1 to 2 months. So if you have plans coming up, it’s best to avoid having surgery within 2 to 3 weeks beforehand.
If you are worried about bio-bond

The second is bio-bond. Bio-bond refers to a phenomenon in which the surgical area becomes firm and clumped together. The reason bio-bond is a concern is that as the area hardens and clumps, it may look protruded, and it can appear uneven when moving. Although this varies by person, it often begins around 2 to 3 weeks after surgery and disappears after 1 to 2 months. If you need to pose for photos during a wedding shoot or trip, it may be difficult to take certain positions in the case of abdominal or arm liposuction, so it is best to avoid this period when bio-bond is present.
The season for wearing compression garments

The third is compression garments. Many people think liposuction surgery is better in winter, and that is partly true. If you wear compression garments in summer, sweat and moisture can build up in areas where the skin folds, such as the knees, elbows, and armpits, which often leads to skin issues. That doesn’t mean surgery is impossible in summer, but we usually recommend having it done during cooler seasons like autumn or winter.
When do noticeable changes begin?

The fourth thing to consider is when the results become visible. If you are planning liposuction surgery so you can wear short sleeveless clothes in the summer, the results need to show at the desired time. For about 1 to 2 months after surgery, swelling and bio-bond may prevent you from feeling a big change as much as you expected. So if you are planning surgery with summer in mind, we recommend having it at least 2 to 3 months beforehand.
The satisfaction you feel from liposuction surgery can vary greatly depending on when you have it. Rather than deciding on surgery in a hurry, you should plan while considering bruising, swelling, bio-bond, the period of wearing compression garments, and when the results actually become visible. If you already have a planned schedule, leave yourself at least a few months of time, have a thorough consultation with a specialist, and decide on the most appropriate timing for you. In many cases, the earlier you prepare, the higher your satisfaction with the results will be.
