[Column] About Bulbous Noses and Alar Reduction

Today’s topic is bulbous noses and alar reduction~!!

What is a bulbous nose? In general, when the tip of the nose looks round and thick,

elders would say, “Your nose is really bulbous!”~~~

In physiognomy, it is said that a large nose brings wealth,

so I guess that is why it is called a bulbous nose!!

However, when the degree of bulbousness is somewhat excessive,

it is also not very preferred aesthetically~~

In general, the noses of popular celebrities are often slim and high,

and bulbous noses are relatively rare, right?

Next, there are cases where, along with a bulbous nose,

the nostrils and alar area are large and flared.

In physiognomy, when the nostrils are exposed from the front and are large,

they say money leaks out like water. It is not a good sign~~

In other words, in these two cases,

reducing the degree of bulbousness can be called --> “bulbous nose surgery.”

Reducing the size of the alar area can be called --> “alar reduction surgery”~!!

First, let’s look at bulbous nose surgery~!!

Ultimately, a bulbous nose means there is a lot of tissue at the nasal tip (fat, soft tissue, muscle, etc.)

Based on that understanding, the procedure reduces it.

If the nasal tip cartilage is spread out, the cartilage is also reshaped and sutured together.

It is common to perform bulbous nose surgery at the same time as open rhinoplasty.

By reducing this excessive bulk,

and raising the nasal tip, the change becomes much more noticeable~!!

It is also common to perform alar reduction surgery at the same time.

When the amount of alar tissue is large, it creates a round, spread-out appearance,

so some of the alar tissue is excised to reduce it!

At the same time, the outer ends of the alar area are fixed

so that the width of the nose can be reduced by tying the left and right sides together~!

In the case of alar reduction, if the amount of excision is excessive

or the suturing is not performed properly,

there is a risk that scars may remain in an unsightly way.

It would be really nice if there were a surgery with nothing but benefits and no downsidesㅠㅠ..

However, when it is performed appropriately,

because the overall result becomes more beautiful than the slight visible scar,

the positive effect will be greater, so it is a surgery worth recommending.
