Hello, this is AB Plastic Surgery.
Today, together with Director Ahn Seung-hyun,
we will learn about forehead reduction surgery.

First of all, there are two ways to reduce a broad forehead:
hair transplantation or forehead reduction surgery.

Both methods have pros and cons. In the case of hair transplantation,
the hairline in the area where the front hair is transplanted looks a little more natural and there is no scar,
but because hair has to be taken from the back, the amount of hair at the back becomes thinner,
and in the case of the incision method, a scar may remain on the back of the head.

Forehead reduction does not require taking hair from the back, and because the skin is directly removed from the broad forehead area,
and the scalp from the hair-bearing area at the back is brought forward and sutured,
it has the advantage of being able to reduce the forehead at once in a clear way.
Also, since there is no period in which the hair falls out and then grows back,
it has the advantage of allowing immediate forehead reduction.

The amount by which the forehead can be reduced at one time with forehead reduction or hair transplantation is limited.
Therefore, for people with a very broad forehead,
both forehead reduction and hair transplantation may be needed.

If both are needed, forehead reduction should be done first, followed by hair transplantation.
If hair transplantation is performed after forehead reduction, the number of hair grafts needed for the transplant can be reduced,
and the shape of the hairline can also be adjusted.
If you want to change the shape of your hairline but have to choose only one, it is better to choose hair transplantation.
If you are satisfied with the shape of your hairline and only want to reduce your forehead, it is better to choose forehead reduction.

The method of forehead reduction involves cutting and removing the skin in front of the hairline in the broad forehead area,
then dissecting the scalp in the hair-bearing area at the back, bringing it forward, and suturing it to reduce the forehead.
Scars in the area that has undergone forehead reduction often remain white as the pigment fades slightly,
so for people with darker skin tones, if the scar later becomes whiter, the boundary with the surrounding skin may become visible,
and the scar may be seen a little more easily.
For people with a very broad forehead or a face that looks long, reducing the forehead through forehead reduction can improve the overall facial proportions,
make the face look less long, and create a somewhat younger-looking effect.
