Hello, this is AB Plastic Surgery.
Today, together with Director Kim Ju-yeon,
let’s learn about contracted nose!

When our body is severely fatigued or the immune system is greatly weakened,
it can interfere with the healing process of an implant.
The membrane surrounding the implant is called a capsule, and when proper treatment is not received,
the capsule can thicken and contract.
When this membrane contracts, the skin surrounding it is pulled slightly and
becomes thicker and contracted.

As a result, the shape of the nose changes, and this phenomenon is called contracture.
When contracture occurs in the nose, it is defined as a contracted nose.

Even when only cartilage is used, inflammation can very rarely occur.
However, when no implant is used, contracture almost never occurs.
The frequency of contracture with Gore-Tex, Gore-Sil, and silicone appears to be nearly the same.

The time when the skin becomes the softest is usually about 6 months after implant removal,
and that is generally considered the best time.
However, depending on the patient’s healing process, some people can undergo the procedure 3 months after implant removal, once the inflammation has completely subsided.
And for those with very severe cases, additional treatments such as stem cell therapy may be necessary,
so I think it is best to wait at least 6 months until the skin has become as soft as possible.
The timing can be adjusted depending on the patient, so it is important to receive regular checkups
and decide on the timing of revision surgery.

Usually, the nose becomes shortened or the shape of the skin changes,
and it is important to release that deformity.
If the skin is hard and shortened, even if the nasal tip is raised high
and the implant along the bridge is elevated,
the skin may not close properly or the shape may not appear as intended.
Therefore, during surgery, it is important to handle the skin in a way that allows it to stretch sufficiently, become soft, and clearly express the shape we have created.

If you become overly ambitious, the skin may become thinner or change color, and these kinds of changes can occur.
On the other hand, if you are too cautious about handling the skin, the shape may not come out beautifully.
In the end, the most important thing is not only preventing inflammation, but also appropriately softening the skin so it can take the shape the patient wants.

First, it is important for doctors to shorten the surgery time.
If the surgery takes too long, the likelihood of causing inflammation can slightly increase.
Second, the first month after surgery is the most important recovery period,
so it is important to avoid smoking, alcohol, and excessive exercise.
After that, if inflammation appears, the best approach is to visit the hospital quickly or contact them.

In most cases, inflammatory reactions involve the nose swelling or turning red,
and many cases are treated right away within a day, so visiting the clinic for an examination
and receiving additional medication or injection treatment can help fully resolve the patient’s inflammation.
In conclusion, after surgery, you should be told by your doctor what inflammation symptoms are,
and if you notice even the slightest unusual symptom, it is best to visit the hospital immediately.
Today, we looked at contracted nose, which is one of the issues patients fear most.
While it is important for nose surgery to look beautiful, I think it is even more important to maintain that shape for a long time.
Therefore, to prevent contracted nose, if there is even the slightest abnormality or if you have any questions after surgery,
please communicate with your treating doctor and receive sufficient consultation
so that you can maintain your beautifully shaped nose for a long time.
