Hello, I’m Director Ma Seong-hwan of AB Plastic Surgery.
Today, let’s look at the differences between male noses and female noses in nose surgery.

- Differences in preferred shape
Generally, when talking about nose shape, you can divide it into the line where the bridge of the nose begins from the glabella, and the line where the bridge meets the tip of the nose. Most men rarely want the line where the bridge begins from the glabella to be curved. In other words, they tend to prefer a small nasofrontal angle, meaning a sharper angle. They also usually prefer the line where the bridge meets the tip of the nose to be straight. Some people want a refined straight line with a slightly lifted tip, but when they go in for a consultation, their mind often changes. Therefore, it is best to determine the exact shape by visiting the clinic and discussing the desired nose shape together.
- Anatomical differences
In general, men have thicker skin than women. Their bones are also larger and thicker, so the impression is stronger and more robust. In men, the section where the nose breaks away from the glabella (the nasofrontal angle) is narrower and the angle changes more sharply. Also, the straight section of the bridge, that is, the straight portion, tends to be longer. On the other hand, in women, the straight section is shorter, the section where the nose breaks away from the glabella is longer, and it shows more curve. There is also a difference in the nasolabial angle between men and women. For men, it is about 5 degrees smaller than for women. Men tend to prefer about 95 to 100 degrees, while women tend to prefer about 100 to 105 degrees. However, this is only a general guideline. Since each individual’s characteristics and preferences vary greatly, it is best to confirm the desired shape through sufficient consultation before surgery.
