Hello, this is Director Jo Dong-pil of AB Plastic Surgery.
I’ll answer the questions you have been wondering about.
Q. I have a recessed chin and am deciding between an implant and chin advancement. Which is more effective? I’m worried an implant may look unnatural, so I’m wondering whether chin advancement would be better.
AB. Among the concerns many recessed-chin patients have are filler treatment, implant surgery, and chin advancement surgery.
Because fillers have issues with maintenance and longevity, patients tend to prefer implants and chin advancement more.
Implants can be effective when the size does not need to be very large and the recessed chin is not severe across the overall chin area.
However, when the recessed chin is large and severe, advancement surgery is much more effective.
People who have had a recessed chin for a long time often develop unevenness in the muscles or overdevelopment of the chin muscles,
and in general, recessed-chin implants have difficulty improving these compensatory changes. Also, patients with a recessed chin often have a double chin,
and improving that area is also difficult.
So, the more severe the recessed chin is and the more unnatural the double chin and jawline appear, the more effective chin advancement surgery is,
and it leads to more natural results.
