I am writing this post to provide accurate medical information about gynecomastia (= gynecomastia).

(1) What gynecomastia is, and how it differs from simply being overweight

Gynecomastia (= gynecomastia, gynecomastia) refers to an excessive enlargement of the male breast.

When the enlargement is caused by an excessive accumulation of fatty tissue, it is called "pseudogynecomastia" or "false gynecomastia."

When the breast enlargement is caused by a combined increase in both fatty tissue and glandular tissue, it is separately referred to as true gynecomastia.

First, pseudogynecomastia refers to symptoms caused by excessive fat accumulation. If the chest feels soft and squishy, like other areas where fat has built up excessively, it is more likely to be pseudogynecomastia.

True gynecomastia is a symptom in which glandular tissue in the male breast develops unintentionally. Most gynecomastia patients fall into the category of true gynecomastia, with subcutaneous fat distributed around the glandular tissue.

(2) Why gynecomastia occurs

It can occur due to obesity or hormonal imbalance, and it may also result from long-term steroid use or side effects of certain medications.

However, most cases are idiopathic gynecomastia with no known cause.

The table below is from a plastic surgery textbook used worldwide and lists the causes of gynecomastia.

The word "Idiopathic" in the first line means "of unknown cause." In other words, it just happens.
