Hello, this is AB Plastic Surgery.
I’ll answer the questions many of you have been wondering about.
Q. I’m curious about wearing a support garment after breast surgery.
I’ve heard it’s best to wear one for 2 to 3 months after surgery, but when I’m dating and getting dressed, the straps of the support garment show. ㅠㅠ I wear a lot of sleeveless clothes.
So on dates, about 2 to 3 times a week, could I go for 7 to 8 hours without wearing the support garment
and just stick on nipple patches and go out? I’m worried that not wearing it for a few hours might cause problems.
AB.
Hello. You asked about how to wear a support garment after breast surgery.
In general, for smooth implants that are commonly used these days, the support garment is often used for 2 to 3 months.
The way the support garment is worn can vary quite a bit depending on the shape of the patient’s breasts, the size and type (characteristics) of the implant used, and the surgical technique.
For example, there are patients who need to wear an upper band for a certain period to prevent fullness in the upper part, but there are also patients for whom it is unnecessary.
Also, some patients do well wearing the support garment for only 2 months, while for others, wearing it for 3 months is essential to prevent position abnormalities such as bottoming out.
That said, if we generally say it should be worn for 2 to 3 months, it does not necessarily mean it must be worn 24 hours a day.
When going out, whether it is okay for a short time to wear a sports bra or other underwear instead of the support garment is often explained as being acceptable for many patients starting around one to two months after surgery.
Therefore, it would be safer to visit the clinic around 1 to 2 months after surgery and confirm whether you can be more flexible with your underwear use, or from when that would be okay.
I will explain in more detail for each individual patient during postoperative follow-up.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to leave them in the comments.
Thank you.
