Hello. I’m Director Seo Chan-eol of AB Plastic Surgery.
Today, I’d like to explain the term that people considering their first nose surgery encounter first: the “nose line.”
What people commonly refer to as the “nose line” can be understood as the “side profile of the nose.” Depending on what shape that side line takes when viewed from a 90-degree or 45-degree angle—from the starting point of the nose at the glabella area to the bridge and tip of the nose—the line is defined.
So what kinds of lines are there?
The commonly mentioned shapes are divided into straight line, semi-curved line, and straight-semi-curved line.
Let’s look at each one and classify them using celebrities whose noses are widely considered attractive as examples.
First, a straight line refers to a nose that stretches straight from the glabella to the tip. It gives a cool, sharp, and strong impression, and from any angle it creates a high, refined image. Female celebrities often shown in photos include actress Go Yoon-jung and NewJeans’ Minji, while male celebrities include actor Ji Chang-wook and NU’EST’s Hwang Min-hyun.

Second, the semi-curved line refers to a nose that curves from the glabella to the tip, with the tip turned slightly upward.
In the past, the traditional curved “horseshoe-shaped” nose had a very low glabella area and a sharply elevated tip, creating an exaggerated curve. By contrast, today’s semi-curved nose usually has a slightly higher starting point at the glabella, resulting in a curve that is not overly pronounced. Representative celebrities with this kind of look include LE SSERAFIM’s Kim Chaewon, influencer Kang Taeri, and actress Min Hyo-rin.

Lastly, the straight-semi-curved line refers to a shape in between the two above. From the starting point to the tip, it comes down in a way that is close to a straight line, but at the tip it rises with a slightly more curved shape. It is less glamorous than a straight line, but feminine, and compared with a semi-curved line, it gives a high, refined impression. Celebrities such as aespa’s Karina, actress Shin Se-kyung, and Oh Yeon-seo are often shown as aspirational examples, and their nose lines are considered close to this type.

Then if the line is the same, will everything feel the same?
Not necessarily. I think the impression of the nose can vary greatly depending on the length of the nose, the height or roundness of the tip, the width of the nose, the degree of brow bone projection, and the volume of the forehead.
If you bring photos of the nose shape you want from the front or side while looking at Instagram, online images, or reviews, it becomes easier during consultation to identify the line, length, width, and other preferences you like. However, if you ask, “Can you make the exact same nose?”, we will try to reflect the parts you prefer and the parts that suit you as closely as possible, but there are many limitations to consider, such as skin thickness and elasticity, facial bone height, and harmony with your facial features.
Because of this, I think it is important during the consultation process to set a goal for a beautiful nose without side effects while receiving recommendations for shapes that suit you and confirming the details you personally want.
I hope this was helpful, and I’ll wrap things up here.
