Let’s get into it
"Rhinoplasty for Rhinitis"
Hello, this is AB Plastic Surgery.
Today, with Director Ma Seong-hwan, we’ll take a look at rhinoplasty for rhinitis.

I understand that Han So-hee said she had nasal surgery for rhinitis.
People seem to have differing opinions about this, asking why the nose would become higher after rhinitis surgery, or whether it can become higher.
First, speaking only as a plastic surgeon, rhinitis surgery can also make the nose look higher.

It does not always become higher!
Because it varies depending on the cause of the rhinitis surgery.
Rhinitis surgery may involve removing or straightening a deviated septum,
and it may also involve correcting the nasal valve.
If the surgery simply removes the septum or widens a narrowed nasal valve area,
there is usually no major change in the outward appearance of the nose.
However, if the deviated septum is straightened and other cartilage is added to strengthen the weakened septum,
the nose can become higher enough for its shape to change.

That part can only be viewed differently depending on one’s perspective.
Because when rhinitis surgery is performed due to severe functional problems, the nose is opened,
and even when rhinoplasty is done for aesthetic purposes, the nose is also opened during surgery.
In any case, since there is a process of nasal surgery to solve functional problems,
I think it is somewhat ambiguous to say that rhinitis surgery is the same as having rhinoplasty.

If a patient undergoing rhinitis surgery has also been considering rhinoplasty,
it is better to have both done at once.
You only need anesthesia once, and I recommend doing them together in terms of postoperative care and cost as well.
In particular, since rhinitis surgery can be covered by private medical insurance claims,
those considering rhinitis surgery should look into it carefully.

From my consultations, there are quite a lot.
At the final stage of a consultation, I always ask, "Do you have nasal congestion? Is breathing uncomfortable?"
Most patients say things like, "I think breathing is a bit difficult."
Then most of them ask whether rhinitis surgery can be done at the same time.

That’s right. We proceed together, and if there are structural problems, we perform rhinitis surgery.

There are many causes of rhinitis.
In cases of allergic rhinitis, it is of course right to see an otolaryngologist.
But when the problem is caused by a deviated septum,
not only the functional aspect but also the aesthetic aspect needs to be considered to some extent,
so there is no problem with having the surgery at a plastic surgery clinic.
This is because, during the process of removing or straightening a deviated septum,
the nasal tip may also tend to drop slightly.
Considering these aesthetic aspects,
I think having functional nasal surgery at a plastic surgery clinic may be a little more advantageous.
