and talk about the things many people think about after nose surgery.

There are people who end up looking natural and doing well, but regretful cases can be broadly divided into two types.

First, there are cases where the shape or size changes. When there is still some swelling, it may feel satisfying even if it is done naturally, but once the swelling goes down, you may think, “Did I make it too natural?” Or, as time passes and the tip of the nose drops a little, the overall result may become unsatisfying.

The second is when your feelings change. As you keep looking at it, the nose height becomes familiar, and depending on changes in your surroundings or trends, you may think, “I should have made it a little higher.” However, everyone has a look that suits them best, so rather than choosing something overly dramatic or flashy, I think it is important to consult with a specialist and find a nose that matches my face now. Also, if you are dissatisfied because the result looks too natural after surgery, there are plenty of ways to correct it, so you may not need to worry too much.

In general, it often correlates with the size of the nose, and if the lower part of the nose feels firm when you press gently, you can judge that the septum is relatively large and strong. However, there are cases where it is significantly crooked but not noticeable from the outside. So, regardless of size, there are cases where it is difficult to use, which is why looking at it with a CT scan before surgery is accurate.

People who want a more dramatic style often prefer to make the tip of the nose look a bit more three-dimensional. If the skin stretches well and the septum you have is large, that alone may be enough to raise the tip of the nose. But if the skin does not stretch well and the septum is small, rib cartilage is often combined so it can provide strong, large support.

'Is nostril reduction irreversible?'

First, when surgery raises the bridge and tip of the nose, the overall tissue is pulled tighter, so the effect seen from the front becomes subtler. When looking at the overall proportions, there are people for whom this degree is appropriate. However, because the position of the base of the nostrils does not change, nostril reduction can help when the width of the base is wide or when the base is thick.

Nostril reduction actually has several methods. There are external incisions, internal incisions, and simple suture tying. So in some cases it can be reversed, and in others it cannot.

We know that placing cotton inside the nose is such a difficult process that it is sometimes called a cotton-trauma experience. However, it helps press the mucosa covering the septum so that they heal well together, and it is also done for hemostasis inside the nose. During surgery, because the septum is straightened or material is used to build up the tip of the nose, part of the septal cartilage is harvested. In this process, the septal cartilage is covered by mucosa on both sides, and the procedure includes peeling that away. After part of the septum is harvested, pressure is applied so the mucosa on both sides can stick together well; if it is not pressed properly, blood or fluid can collect and they will not adhere well.

There are also cases where cotton is not placed. First, if the septum is not harvested, and second, if only part of the nose such as the tip or bridge is corrected, cotton is not inserted.

What if you think, after removing the splint, that the nose is ruined??

The area between the eyebrows is swollen, both eyelids are swollen, and the whole nose is swollen, so you may wonder, “Is this right?” But as it gradually settles and the swelling goes down, I hope you won’t worry too much.

It varies from person to person, but on average by around the two-week mark, the swelling around the area goes down and the shape is somewhat established, so it seems to reach a stage where you do not feel embarrassed to go out. Around one month, the major swelling has mostly gone down, and the degree of residual swelling varies greatly from person to person, but there can still be gradual changes for about 3 to 6 months.
