Hello, this is AB Plastic Surgery.
I will answer the questions you have been wondering about.
Q. Is scar tissue removal important in revision rhinoplasty? Why does scar tissue form?
A.
Scar tissue is normal scar tissue that forms during the healing process of a wound. When our body gets injured, the wound heals through several stages.
During that process, fibrous tissue forms and feels firm. That is scar tissue.
This firm-feeling scar tissue usually begins to soften after about 6 months.
Of course, there are individual differences, so in some cases it lasts longer.
In general, people with thin skin and less pigmentation tend to have less of it, while in cases where the skin is thick, oily, and has more pigmentation, scar tissue tends to last longer.
During revision rhinoplasty, removing existing scar tissue is an important factor.
By properly removing the scar tissue created by the previous surgery, it becomes easier to correct structural distortion caused by it and to reshape the nose again.
In addition, scar tissue removal can actually reduce the thickened feeling at the tip of the nose, and it can also reduce the amount of scar tissue that will inevitably form again.
