Today, we have prepared an answer to a question that many people are curious about regarding rhinoplasty.

Q. Is surgery possible for a severe hump nose without shaving it down?

A. A hump nose is related to excessive nasal growth, so in most cases the nose is large and well developed. People like this usually have other facial bones that are also well developed, and they often have a longer midface. In addition, most of these people have a long nose and well-developed cartilage. Since these are mostly masculine features, if a woman has a hump nose, it is much better to improve the overall shape by operating on not only the hump but also a drooping nasal tip.

There are broadly two directions for treatment. One method is to shave down the hump and remove it, and the other is to conceal it by raising the nasal bridge with silicone or other materials. The latter is called camouflage in English, and it is a technique widely used in rhinoplasty as well, not only for this type of hump nose.

People with a hump nose often have a low glabella and supratip area above and below the hump, so there is a way to conceal it by filling in these areas. For example, when inserting silicone, rather than placing it exactly in its original shape, the hump area is trimmed so that the bridge of the nose feels straight. If you want surgery without an implant, it can be concealed with dermis or cartilage.

However, as mentioned earlier, many people with a hump nose have well-developed facial bones, and if surgery is performed without correcting the hump in such cases, the nose may become too large or even appear longer, which may not suit the overall balance of the face.
