Hello, this is AB Plastic Surgery.
I’ll answer one of the questions many of you have had about rhinoplasty!
Q. If the skin is thin, is there a limit to how much the nasal bridge can be raised?
A: You asked whether thin skin becomes a problem when raising the nose. In conclusion, this is certainly something that must be considered.
Let’s think about blowing up a balloon. The more air you put into a balloon, the thinner it becomes and the more its interior shows through.
The skin on the nose is the same. If the skin is thin and the nose is raised too much, it can become even thinner, and in severe cases, the cartilage or implant may show through.
Therefore, when raising the nose, the height must be set by carefully considering the characteristics of each person’s skin.
Even if the skin does not become thinner, raising the nasal bridge beyond the skin’s limit can also cause problems such as redness of the skin.
So does that mean people with thin skin cannot raise the nose very much? Not necessarily.
When raising the nose, the skin can also be supplemented.
The most commonly used material for this supplemental skin is dermis-fat, which can be harvested from various areas such as behind the ear, the temporalis muscle, or the area behind the buttocks,
and depending on the case, donor dermis can also be used.
I hope this answers your question.
Thank you.
