Hello, this is AB Plastic Surgery.
Today, with Dr. Seo Chan-eol, we’ll take a look at first-time nose surgery.
These days, many examinees who have finished the CSAT come in for consultations with their test admission slips.
So today, we’ll take some of the questions that students ask when they visit the hospital
and take time to answer them.

First, you need to consider the time it takes for swelling to go down. After about a month, the major swelling subsides,
and after that, the remaining minor swelling gradually goes down over 3 to 6 months.
Most university schedules start in March, but there are many pre-orientation meetings and such in February,
so it would be better to plan while considering your schedule.

One advantage may be that the recovery period is short.
And since surgery involves anesthesia and can be difficult,
being able to address everything at once is, of course, a plus.
If you have both eye and nose surgery, then living quietly for about a month
and resolving everything at once can boost your confidence as well, so I think that could be good.

An endonasal approach does not mean there is no incision; it means the incision is made only on the inside.
An open approach means making an incision in the columella area in the center of the nose, and making the rest of the incisions inside.

Each has its own pros and cons, but for the type of nose many Koreans have—small noses or so-called fleshy bulbous noses with a lot of tissue at the tip—
a slightly more accessible approach is the incision method, which I think gives better results and is a good option.

There are various materials, and they can be classified by whether they are used for the bridge of the nose or the tip of the nose.
Just as the nose that suits each person differs a little, the material selected also differs depending on factors such as facial proportions.

If you want a more dramatic height, rib cartilage is often used.
If you want something moderately natural, septal cartilage or ear cartilage is often used.
For the bridge of the nose, if you have a slight hump and want to fill only the sunken area and reduce the hump,
your own cartilage may be sufficient.
Or, if your nose is small and low and you want to improve its support, silicone is used because dimensional volume is needed.

Many people ask about this part.
As the area between the eyebrows is raised, there is swelling at first, and because of the pulling effect the eyes can
appear somewhat close together. However, in most cases this is all taken into account when the surgery is done,
so once the swelling goes down, the eyes usually do not look very close together.

Celebrity photos are fine, and review photos you found online are also fine.
The reason for bringing these is not to say, “Please make me exactly like this!” but because patients have specific points they like.

So from the front, you may want certain things—for example, the look of the tip of the nose, how much of the nostrils are visible,
the length of the nose, or the starting point of the nose. Or, from the side, the nose line, the feel of the tip,
the nasolabial angle, and similar features—bringing photos helps us understand which points you like.
That way, we can reflect those preferences, explain what is possible and what has limitations, and then
set a goal by combining these aspects with what suits you well, so collecting photos can be very helpful.

It depends on the person, but you should be careful for about 1 to 2 months.
So if you want to drink comfortably during freshman orientation, it is better to have the surgery a bit earlier.
At the very least, you need to abstain from alcohol for about a month.
Today, based on the questions that examinees asked when they visited the hospital, we put together this discussion.
Since this is your first surgery, I hope you make a good choice based on accurate information and proceed with the operation.
