When people think of surgery in general,
pain is unavoidable.
So with breast reduction surgery as well,
many people worry a lot about pain.
So today, I’d like to talk about the pain
associated with breast reduction surgery.

What is the pain of breast reduction surgery?
Pain varies from person to person, but
breast reduction surgery is not a procedure
that causes severe pain.
The reason is that, unlike surgery inside the abdomen
or inside the thoracic cavity,
reduction surgery removes the ectodermal breast tissue,
which is an appendage extended from skin tissue,
so it can be seen as a kind of skin surgery.

If the intensity of labor pain is expressed as 10,
breast reduction surgery can be considered
at around 1 to 3, similar to severe menstrual cramps.
People who hear this usually say it is
less severe than they expected.

Usually, the cause of this kind of pain
is the pressure from swelling.
However, this pain can generally be managed
with a mild painkiller,
so there is no need to worry too much.

If we compare it with a similar breast surgery,
augmentation,
augmentation surgery cannot place an implant
just beneath the skin and breast gland,
so the pectoralis major muscle must be dissected
to insert the implant under the muscle,
which can cause 상당히 severe muscle pain.

However, breast reduction surgery does not involve the muscles,
because the muscles cover the internal organs,
such as the lungs and ribs,
and the surgery is performed on the outer, sagging breast tissue and skin,
so the muscles are left untouched,
which can be seen as more stable.

Therefore, a reduction surgery performed only above the muscle
can be said to be less painful than augmentation surgery.
