Hello.
I’m Dr. Bae Jin-hye, Director of Mams Plastic Surgery Clinic.
Today’s topic is
“Why Did My Breasts Get Bigger?”
Many people have probably asked themselves this question at least once.

The reason your breasts got bigger is not
‘because you gained weight?’
‘because you don’t exercise?’
These are not the reasons.
And you should never think that it was
‘your own fault.’
So let’s take a look at what causes breast enlargement.

Reason breasts get bigger ①
‘The breast as a special organ’
The breast is not simply a lump of fat,
but glandular tissue affected by female hormones.
The reason it feels firm when you touch it is also because of the fibrous connective tissue within the glandular tissue.
Therefore, the breast does not change with weight fluctuations the way fat does.
You could say that the breast is one of the body’s organs that responds to hormones.

Reason breasts get bigger ②
‘Differences in puberty and gland sensitivity’
During puberty, female hormones are rapidly secreted,
stimulating the glandular cells to grow.
However, because sensitivity to hormones varies from person to person,
even if the same amount of hormone is secreted,
some people’s glandular tissue responds much more actively.
This can be considered a constitutional difference,
and cellular responsiveness is more important than hormone levels.
So it is not uncommon for even a very slim person to have large breasts.
“Ah, my body just responded more sensitively.”
That is a good way to understand it.

Reason breasts get bigger ③
‘Congenital factors and the influence of genetics’
The cause of breast hypertrophy has not yet been fully clarified,
but two factors make the breasts more likely to enlarge:
the number of glandular cells
the firmness of the fibrous tissue
Genetic factors can also have some influence.
It is not a hereditary disease, but constitution and tissue characteristics can resemble those of family members.

Reason breasts get bigger ④
‘The relationship with weight changes’
Of course, when weight increases, the fat layer also increases,
so the breasts can temporarily become larger as well.
But fundamentally, the main reason is excessive development of glandular tissue.
That is why it is difficult to reduce breast size through dieting alone.
In fact, excessive dieting can reduce skin elasticity
and cause ‘breast sagging.’

Therefore, breast hypertrophy is not simply a cosmetic issue,
but a medical condition that affects quality of life through
shoulder pain
poor posture
skin eczema
psychological distress
and other discomforts.

It is not a condition that can be prevented,
but if symptoms are present,
it can be managed with a stable and careful approach.

The size of the breasts is a physiological response created by hormones and constitution.
So there is no reason to be embarrassed,
and no reason to think it is your fault.

After understanding these constitutional traits,
it is important not to simply make them smaller,
but to undergo surgery that restores balance and health to the body.
Thank you.
