Nice to meet you. I am Director Jang Wook of Objet Plastic Surgery.
These days, one of the anti-aging procedures many people choose is lower eyelid fat repositioning. Before undergoing this procedure, what points should you check?
A place that helps design the complex you did not even realize you had into a feature you can feel confident about. Objet Plastic Surgery is here with you.
Whatever procedure you undergo, the very first thing to consider is safety. Safety includes the surgeon’s clinical experience, side effects, preoperative tests, and more. If that safety is ensured, what should you consider next?
It is whether it is the right fit for you. "Whether it suits me" is closely related to the points to consider and check. If you are currently considering lower eyelid fat repositioning, let’s look at what to consider before surgery.
1/ Please make an accurate assessment of the shape of your eyes and the surrounding structures.
"The area under my eyes looks sunken" can be interpreted in two ways regarding the condition of the eyes.
First, you may feel that the area under the eyes looks sunken because fat is protruding. On the other hand, you may feel that the eyes themselves look sunken because the eyes are set back. Both share the common impression of looking sunken, but in reality, they arise from completely different causes.
Because the causes are different, the surgical approach also differs completely depending on the condition of the eyes.
For example, if someone whose eyes are set back and hollow undergoes lower eyelid fat repositioning simply to remove the sunken appearance, the eyes may end up looking even more set back and sunken after surgery. For such patients, rather than fat repositioning, fat grafting or combining fat repositioning with fat grafting is a better option.
2/ An objective evaluation of how much skin elasticity there is is important.
For people in their 20s to 30s, skin elasticity is usually well maintained, so lower eyelid fat repositioning through a conjunctival incision can produce relatively satisfactory results. However, for people whose skin is significantly sagging and lacks elasticity, lower blepharoplasty, which includes removing the loose skin and also considering the underlying muscle, should be considered.
In general, for older patients, lower eyelid fat repositioning through a conjunctival incision alone may have limitations, so lower blepharoplasty is considered. However, age itself is not an absolute standard. It is determined by each individual’s skin condition, regardless of age.
Therefore, it is important to thoroughly consider these points before surgery and receive an accurate consultation that is tailored to you.
Additional Tip!
Even for the same lower eyelid fat repositioning procedure, there are many different ways to secure the moved fat and the orbital septum to the lower area. The surgical results can vary greatly depending on the fixation method. If you have the time to look into it carefully, it would be good to learn about the surgical method in detail and compare the options.
At Objet Plastic Surgery, we primarily use a method called the double-fixation repositioning technique, combined with various fixation methods. These techniques can be described as our clinic’s special approach, developed through years of experience and research.
