Hello, this is Objet Plastic Surgery.
In this post, we will take a look at the "crooked nose." You may wonder at first, "Could a nose really be crooked?" but surprisingly, many people visit our clinic with related concerns.
A crooked nose may, depending on the case, be correctable or may not be. So, from here on, let’s look at cases where crooked nose correction surgery is possible and where it is not.
Cases Where Crooked Nose Correction Is Possible
VS
Cases Where Crooked Nose Correction Is Impossible
Cases Where Crooked Nose Correction Is Possible
If the nose was originally normal but became crooked due to falling, injury, external pressure from a fight, or other external stimuli, correction is possible. Even in congenital cases, if the axis is normal but the nose is bent in a C-shape or S-shape, it can also be properly and normally aligned.
Cases Where Crooked Nose Correction Is Impossible
If the facial axis itself is crooked, it can be considered impossible. When you look at the face, there are cases where the face appears to be slanted diagonally.
The 기준 for judging the tilt is whether, when you draw a straight line from the midpoint between the eyebrows to the tip of the chin, the face is bent diagonally. In such cases, everything is inevitably crooked in line with that tilt. If only the nose is aligned to the center in this case, it may actually look even stranger. If the facial axis itself is congenitally crooked, correction may be quite difficult.
If the facial axis itself is crooked from birth, correction is difficult; however, if the facial side is relatively vertical but only the nose is bent in a C shape, it is possible to make it somewhat straight using procedures such as osteotomy or spread grafting, which are expansion grafting techniques.
If the facial axis is straight,
is it possible when only the nose shape is crooked?
If the axis is straight, the nose should also not be crooked, but as each person’s situation differs, there are cases where the axis is straight but the nose is crooked.
In such cases, you may think, "Can’t it be corrected?" but there are cases where it cannot.
That is due to the "position of the nostrils."
Even if the face is vertical, there are cases where the nostrils are偏 to the right or left. The bridge of the nose descends based on the nostrils, and in such cases, the crooked nose can be straightened to the center, but the nostrils themselves cannot be moved.
In this case, the bridge of the nose should be located where the bridge descends, but it is not in that position. From the outside, it takes the form of a nose that is crooked around the nostrils. When you look in the mirror, the nose appears crooked. In addition, because the bridge and nostrils do not match, the nostrils also appear to be collapsing.
Because it appears this way externally, we do not recommend this case even if the patient wishes for it.
People for whom crooked nose correction is difficult
● When the nostrils are located on the side rather than in the center
● When the facial axis is crooked
