Hello. This is Obje Plastic Surgery.
This Chuseok holiday was quite a long one. I hope you were able to rest well during the holiday.
Does aegyo-sal disappear after lower blepharoplasty?
Aegyo-sal does not disappear.
The eyelid has a firm tissue called the tarsus, which helps maintain the shape of the eyelid.
Aegyo-sal refers to the muscle that covers the front of the tarsus, starting just below the eyelashes. Some of you may be a little surprised to learn that aegyo-sal is a muscle.
In the case of aegyo-sal after lower blepharoplasty, the procedure is performed while preserving the pretarsal muscle, which is aegyo-sal, so aegyo-sal is maintained after surgery as well.
Do fine wrinkles disappear after lower blepharoplasty?
It is not possible to remove all fine wrinkles.
However, wrinkles that become deep folds as the tissue sags can be smoothed out.
Even after surgery, it is better to think that some fine, creased wrinkles will remain. Right after surgery, swelling may make the fine wrinkles look temporarily smoothed out, but as time passes, the fine wrinkles will reappear.
Also, the severity of fine wrinkles varies depending on each person’s skin. In general, when the skin is thin and dry, fine wrinkles may appear more prominently. In such cases, fine wrinkles will remain even after lower blepharoplasty.
Is there a separate aftercare schedule after lower blepharoplasty?
You need to come in for disinfection of the sutured area and removal of the stitches.
In the case of under-eye fat repositioning, there is no need to apply separate dressings to the surgical area or remove stitches after surgery, so you can manage swelling at home with ice packs, etc.
For lower blepharoplasty or dual lower blepharoplasty, aftercare is necessary.
Because there will be an external sutured area, you usually come in 1 to 2 days after surgery to have the surgical site disinfected, and the stitches are removed on day 5.
Can you go about daily life after lower blepharoplasty?
There is no problem with daily life, but please consider going out starting 1 to 2 weeks after surgery.
There is no issue with daily life. However, after surgery, swelling and bruising are unavoidable. Although the extent varies greatly from person to person, after 1 to 2 weeks the severe swelling settles down and the bruised areas are also mostly absorbed and become lighter. From that point on, going out generally does not pose a major problem.
However, the degree of swelling can vary significantly depending on age, underlying conditions, and individual characteristics. If the swelling is severe, we recommend going out only after the swelling has sufficiently subsided.
Will there be a lot of under-eye scarring after lower blepharoplasty?
Under-eye scars are almost invisible.
It is true that all sutured areas leave scars. In general, scars may appear as red lines and look raised for about 1 to 2 months after surgery. After 2 months, they gradually begin to fade, and later they look like very thin lines.
In particular, eyelid skin is the thinnest skin on the body, so the scar is much less noticeable than in other areas. Also, in lower blepharoplasty, the incision is made along the body’s natural wrinkle lines, so the scar is hidden within the wrinkles and is almost invisible.
