Hello. This is Objet Plastic Surgery.
This post will cover “how to diagnose inflammation after nose surgery.”
In the case of surgery that involves implants, concerns about inflammation are unavoidable.
Director Lee Kyung-mook will share the “self-check method for inflammation.” Let’s reveal it~ Ta-da~
Characteristics of Inflammation
Inflammation means the body’s response to irritation, injury, infection, and so on.
It can be seen as the body’s normal protective response to bacteria or viruses, antigens, or tissue damage. In general, inflammation is a helpful process for healing, but if symptoms do not stop or are not controlled over time, the body can be damaged.
It generally has characteristics such as swelling, redness, and heat.
After nose surgery as well, if your nose becomes red and painful after surgery, you should first suspect inflammation.
Director Lee Kyung-mook’s “Inflammation Self-Check Method”
I will explain the criteria for determining whether inflammation has occurred.
A Different Today from Yesterday
(According to Director Lee Kyung-mook of Objet Plastic Surgery)
If yesterday there was nothing wrong, but today you suddenly develop symptoms that are different from yesterday, rather than trying to self-diagnose, you should absolutely visit the hospital. Please come in and receive a diagnosis and treatment from the medical staff.
The title of today’s video is self-checking for inflammation after nose surgery, but you should not self-diagnose; “self-suspicion” would be the more appropriate expression, right?
If you become self-suspicious and experience a today that is different from yesterday, I recommend that you quickly visit the hospital and receive a diagnosis from the surgeon in charge.
Naturally, you may worry, “Could this be inflammation?” and that can also cause a lot of stress, which is harmful to mental health.
Since stress is the root of many illnesses, for an accurate check of your condition and for your mental health, if you think, “I may have inflammation,” please visit the hospital immediately.
Implants are made from materials that have almost no reaction with the human body. They are safe materials that do not trigger allergies or immune reactions, but inflammatory reactions can still occur due to surgery or unknown reasons.
This applies not only to the nose but to all cases where implants are inserted into the body,
and in some cases, due to unexpected causes, treatment with antibiotics alone may not work. Therefore, if symptoms suggesting inflammation appear, you must visit the hospital right away.

If skin discoloration appears, the cause is often difficult to determine.
In such cases, drug treatment comparable to inflammation treatment is performed. As explained earlier, the characteristics of inflammation are fever, redness, pain, and swelling. This is somewhat different from suppuration.
Suppuration means tissue necrosis occurs and pus forms; redness around the implant area or slight pain can be seen as a chronic inflammatory reaction.
When asked during consultation about the cause of inflammation after nose surgery, in most cases the main causes are heavy drinking and stress.
When an implant or other foreign material is inserted, you must be very sensitive to symptoms.
As a rule, if symptoms worsen even slightly, removal is recommended, but if the degree of inflammation is low
and the color change or pain is very minor, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications are administered, followed by close observation and treatment.
Types of Inflammation
- Inflammation caused by silicone: This is one of the easier types of inflammation to treat.
In this case, the silicone can be removed, the area cleaned, and then the silicone can be inserted again after 6 months, so you can think of cases where the nose is ruined by silicone as almost nonexistent.
It is the lowest stage among inflammation symptoms, and it can definitely be treated.
- Inflammation in the support structure: This is the highest stage among inflammations and a case that requires caution.
It can occur not only with donated rib cartilage but also with the septum, ear cartilage, and autologous rib cartilage.
Compared with silicone, the occurrence rate is the lowest. However, if it does occur,
more postoperative care and caution are required than for others during the recovery process.
※ For reference, in the case of inflammation caused by nose surgery, even if you go to the emergency room because you are in a hurry, you may not receive much help. Therefore, we recommend receiving treatment at the place where the surgery was performed whenever possible.
If inflammation occurs and
should the implant be removed,
won’t the nose become too low?
Even if the implant is removed, it rarely returns to being as low as before. If the nose was very low and the bridge had collapsed, it may become lower.
However, if the bridge had some height to begin with, tissues such as capsules form around the implant, so even if the implant is removed, it does not become severely lower. Also, after implant removal
after inflammation treatment, once about 6 months have passed and the area is in a safe condition, revision surgery is possible.
Even in a normal body, inflammation can occur.
It can be caused by viruses or bacteria, but it can also occur due to autoimmune disease.
When foreign substances or implants are introduced into our body, the likelihood of inflammation is higher than in other areas, but if it is detected early and dealt with properly, it is not something to be overly concerned about.
