Hello, this is Objet Plastic Surgery.
For this post, with the help of Director Kim Hyun-jo, we have prepared information about 'upper eyelid surgery that creates a beautiful double eyelid line and corrects sagging.'
Upper Eyelid Surgery
Most people who come for Gangnam upper blepharoplasty come because of 'drooping eyelids.' As people age, the skin on the eyelids sags, and when eyelid skin sags, it blocks the field of vision. In addition, the original double eyelid line also becomes hidden and no longer visible.

The strength used to open the eyes also weakens, causing people to keep lifting their eyebrows. Along with this, deep wrinkles can form above the eyebrows and on the forehead.
In such cases, upper eyelid surgery is performed. Simply put, you can understand it like this:
Remove the excess skin,
strengthen the eye-opening power if it is weak,
and create a beautiful double eyelid line.
That is how you can think of this surgery.
Who needs upper eyelid surgery
Once you are in your 40s, reduced skin elasticity
causes the upper eyelids to sag,
leading to inconvenience in daily life.
That is why many people visit the clinic.
✔ Those who already have a thin hidden double eyelid line, or
✔ Those who do not have a double eyelid at all, or
✔ Those who already have double eyelids but want a more refreshed eye shape, or
✔ Those whose eye-opening strength is weak and need it strengthened
may benefit from Gangnam upper blepharoplasty.

In the case of upper eyelid surgery, there are almost no cases where it cannot be performed. However, it is important to accurately predict whether the double eyelid shape will turn out more attractive or somewhat heavier after surgery.
The most important factor that determines
double eyelid shape: 'skin thickness'
If the skin covering the fold above the double eyelid line is
thin, the result tends to be a natural and refreshed double eyelid shape.
But for people with thicker skin,
compared with those who have thin skin,
the post-surgery double eyelid may feel somewhat heavier.
When eye surgery is difficult with upper blepharoplasty alone
- When skin sagging is severe and too much skin would need to be removed with upper blepharoplasty alone
Before upper blepharoplasty, sagging is first addressed to some extent through brow lift under the eyebrow or forehead-brow lift, and then upper blepharoplasty is performed.
- Those whose eye-opening strength is especially weak / those whose dark iris is largely covered even when they open their eyes as much as possible
Not every case improves simply by having Gangnam upper blepharoplasty.
For those whose eye-opening strength is especially weak (it may have been weak from birth, or it may gradually weaken with age), if the dark iris is still largely covered even when the eyes are opened as wide as possible, surgery to strengthen eye-opening power is needed.
Usually, ptosis surgery or eye-opening correction surgery is performed. Many people know this as eye-opening correction, and this surgery strengthens the power to open the eyes, turning a tired-looking eye shape into a more refreshed one.
- When the area above the eyes is sunken and looks tired
In this case, while performing upper blepharoplasty, a procedure may be needed to bring down the fat that has been pulled backward.
However, depending on each person's condition, if the hollowness remains significant even after bringing the fat down,
additional fat grafting may be necessary.

Upper eyelid surgery procedure
For Gangnam upper blepharoplasty, the eyes need to be opened and closed repeatedly for checking, so it is performed under local sedation anesthesia.
Although it varies depending on the surgical method, the procedure usually takes within 1 to 2 hours on average.
Recovery period after surgery
After surgery, swelling and bruising may occur. In particular, upper blepharoplasty causes swelling that looks like a sausage immediately after surgery.
Although it varies from person to person, once at least 1 month has passed, the swelling goes down and a natural shape appears. It takes about 2 to 3 months for the swelling to subside completely back to how it looked before surgery, and in some cases it may take longer.

Exercise, contact lenses, and glasses
Light exercise such as walking is completely fine even right after surgery, but for lifting heavy objects or exercising to the point of getting out of breath, we recommend waiting at least 1 month.
Wearing glasses is not a problem, but it is best to avoid contact lenses immediately after the procedure while swelling is present. Once the swelling has fully gone down and there is no eye discomfort at all,
we recommend wearing them.
