Fat grafting

This is a procedure that increases volume by injecting fat collected from your own body into the face. Because it uses your own fat, it tends to have fewer side effects and a high survival rate, so satisfaction is generally high. However, rather than using a standardized method, it should be performed differently depending on the area to be grafted and the symptoms.

Methods and effects of fat grafting by area

Forehead

If the forehead above the eyebrows is sunken, the bone structure becomes more pronounced and can give a strong impression.

Changing the forehead into a fuller shape makes the face look softer, and also creates a more three-dimensional effect from the side.

The amount of fat grafted is relatively large for this area, and it is evenly grafted from above the bone through the muscle layer and the subcutaneous layer.

Temples

If the temples are sunken, the face can look gaunt and unhealthy. In such cases, fat grafting to the temples can make the face look less gaunt and help prevent the cheekbones from appearing more prominent. It is mainly grafted into the subcutaneous layer, and care must be taken to avoid an uneven appearance.

Cheekbones

In East Asians, the width of the cheekbones is often broad from side to side. Fat is not usually grafted on the lateral sides of the cheekbones, but sunken areas caused by features such as the tear trough line that extends from the cheekbone to under the eyes are filled with fat grafting.

Cheeks

If there is a sunken area below the cheekbones, extending from the mouth area toward the ears, the face can look lacking in volume and give an unhealthy impression. This area does not have underlying bony support, so to achieve the desired effect, it requires more fat grafting than one might expect.

Nasolabial folds

Nasolabial folds that run from the sides of the nose toward the mouth when smiling can make the cheeks look more saggy or make the mouth appear protruded. In this area, fat is injected into multiple layers from above the bone to below the skin to soften the sunken contour.

Chin tip

If the chin tip is short or flat, fat grafting can create a V-line and a slimmer chin tip. To enhance the effect, fat from the area under the jawline may also be suctioned.

Lips

Fat grafting to the lips can be performed to create fuller lips.

Glabella

Wrinkles between the eyebrows can create sunken areas between the folds, and fat is grafted into this area to correct the depression.

This is usually caused by glabellar wrinkles resulting from muscle movement, so it is advisable to combine the procedure with Botox to paralyze the muscle function.

Nose

Fat grafting is also possible for the nasal bridge.

The tip of the nose tends to show only a small effect, and the height increase is less than with surgery. Therefore, it is suitable for cases where there are slight irregularities in the bridge line or where the area connecting the glabella to the nasal bridge needs to be raised.

Breasts

In addition to using implants, fat grafting can also be performed on the breasts. When fat grafting is done for breast enlargement, a large volume of fat grafting is needed, so a large amount of fat must be harvested from the donor area in preparation for liposuction, which means the surgery takes quite a long time.

Buttocks

To achieve a hip-up effect, liposuction can be performed on the lower part of the buttocks, and fat can be grafted into the sunken area of the upper buttocks.

Dark circles

If the reddish color of muscles or the greenish color of blood vessels shows through the thin skin, it can cause dark circles. In such cases, fat grafting is performed under the thin skin to cover the visible colors and improve the dark circles.

The under-eye area has very thin tissue, so side effects such as unevenness or palpable lumps can occur easily after fat grafting. For this reason, a special technique called single fat cell grafting is used.

Tear trough

If there is a crescent-shaped hollow tear trough under the eyes, fat is usually grafted deeply into the muscle layer and over the bone to smooth out the groove. It can also be grafted superficially under the skin, but care must be taken to avoid an uneven appearance.

Sunken upper eyelids

If the area above the eyes is sunken, it can give a tired impression, and the double eyelid line does not look natural. For the area above the eyes, grafting is mainly performed deeper than the muscle layer, inside the orbital septum, and it is sometimes done at the same time as double eyelid surgery or upper blepharoplasty.

Under-eye aegyo-sal
