Hello. This is Objet Plastic Surgery.
Today’s post is about “dual lower blepharoplasty surgery.” This procedure, which has received much love from many people, is one of Objet’s most popular surgeries and can be called a representative surgery for a more youthful look. Through the words of Director Kim Hyun-jo of Objet Plastic Surgery, let’s take a look at whether there are any precautions to keep in mind before surgery.
Types of medications that cannot be taken before surgery
Before surgery, it is best to stop medications that increase bleeding tendency whenever possible. If there is a lot of bleeding during surgery, it can cause problems in the surgical process, and the results after surgery may not be good. The possibility of hematoma, where blood collects in the area after surgery, also increases significantly.
Medications that increase bleeding tendency include anticoagulants, platelet aggregation inhibitors, antipyretic analgesic anti-inflammatory drugs, and blood flow improvers.
Representative platelet aggregation inhibitors
Aspirin, Astrix, Plavix, etc.
Representative antipyretic analgesic anti-inflammatory drugs
There are various types, such as Brufen, Celebrex, Naproxen, and others.
Representative blood flow improvers
Gidexin is a representative example.
The timing for stopping each medication may vary slightly, but it is generally recommended to stop them 1 week to 10 days before surgery.
In addition, for oral contraceptives and hormone medications, it is recommended to stop them one month before surgery. Herbal medicines, health supplements such as red ginseng, and omega-3 may also increase bleeding tendency, so it is recommended to stop them at least one week before surgery.
The information above applies to general cases. Depending on each patient’s individual condition, there may be cases where medication must be continued while proceeding with surgery, so we recommend discussing thoroughly with the medical staff before proceeding.
Foods that should not be consumed before surgery
There are no foods that specifically should not be consumed. However, excessive drinking may leave you in poor condition on the day of surgery, so it is recommended to avoid it.
Behaviors to avoid before surgery
It is best to stop drinking and smoking. In particular, smoking causes peripheral blood vessels to constrict, slowing recovery in the area and leading to poor outcomes. Smokers are strongly advised to quit before and after surgery.
Dermatology procedures to avoid before surgery
It is best to avoid procedures that interfere with assessing the patient’s condition.
For example, if filler is injected under the eyes ahead of lower eyelid fat repositioning, it not only makes it difficult to accurately assess the patient’s condition, but the filler may also show during the surgery and occasionally become an obstacle.
Apart from cases like the one above, procedures such as Botox, simple laser treatments, Ulthera, Shurink, and skin booster injections are acceptable.
