Hello, this is Obje Plastic Surgery.
A while ago, through a previous post, we talked about the "precautions before lower blepharoplasty." In this post, we will talk about the "precautions after lower blepharoplasty."

Precautions After Lower Blepharoplasty
- Medication

For medications that increase bleeding tendency,
we advise stopping them as much as possible before surgery. Medications in this category include anticoagulants, platelet aggregation inhibitors, analgesic anti-inflammatory drugs, and circulation-improving agents. These medications may be taken again about 3 to 4 days after surgery, once it is judged that hemostasis has been achieved to some extent.
However, this can vary depending on each individual’s condition, so we recommend that you make a decision only after checking the progress with the surgeon in charge after the operation.
- Food

There are no foods that are specifically restricted.
Also, there are no particular foods that you should expect to help recovery just by eating them.
Eating tasty food in moderation as you normally would is actually helpful.
However, depending on how you recover after surgery, there may be foods you should avoid for a while. For example, if you had a facelift, we recommend starting with porridge.
The reason is that if you eat very chewy foods,
the surgical area may move a lot, which could lead to a poor result.
Other than these special cases, there are not many foods you need to avoid.
- Swelling management / Glasses and contact lenses / Face washing and showering

For the first 3 to 4 days after surgery, it is important to reduce swelling with diligent ice compresses.
When wearing glasses, be careful not to press on the area.
For contact lenses, we recommend wearing them again after about one week, once the area has settled somewhat.
If it still has not settled after one week, you should wait a little longer before wearing them.
For face washing and showering, we recommend doing so after all the stitches have been removed. This may vary by area, but in the case of the upper and lower eyelids, stitches are usually removed about 5 to 7 days after surgery. After that, we advise you to wash your face and shower carefully.
Using saunas, bathhouses, swimming pools, or other places where you enter a hot bath is possible after one month.
- How to apply ointment to the surgical area

After upper or lower blepharoplasty, there are times when patients need to apply ointment to the sutured area themselves.
When applying ointment, do not apply too much.
Using a clean cotton swab, squeeze out the ointment and gently coat the sutured area.
- Exercise
Light walking exercises such as strolling are fine, but running, cycling, and muscle workouts that require lifting heavy objects are recommended only after one month.
The surgical area has opened

Sometimes this can happen.
The reason this symptom occurs is that although the surface appears to have healed, the inside has not fully recovered yet,
so it can easily open with strong impact or stimulation.
In this case, you should come to the hospital immediately and have it re-sutured.
