Hello,
This is Obje Plastic Surgery.

A nose that has a slight bump in the middle and slopes downward toward the tip is called a “hump nose.”
The causes of how a hump nose forms are fairly limited.
You may think of the nose as one single part, but in fact, it is divided into several components.
First, there is the septal cartilage, which contains the nasal bone, and there is the tip cartilage.
There is also the skin surrounding them.
In the case of the nasal bone, it grows around the first or second year of high school, and around the third year of high school,
the nasal cartilages are finally completed.

A hump nose can be understood as something that happens because the septal cartilage wants to grow larger than the bone.
So the bone grows first, and the septal cartilage pushes against it,
creating a bump at the point where the nasal bone and septal cartilage meet.
It can also form as the tip cartilage drops downward.
In many cases, when looking inside, the nasal bone and septal cartilage are significantly deviated,
and rhinitis is often present as well.
In such cases, when performing hump nose rhinoplasty,
there are many patients with rhinitis,
so the surgery must be carried out with that in mind.

Hump nose rhinoplasty method
Among patients, some say, “Please just remove the hump.”
In such cases, at our clinic, we look closely at the patient’s nasal condition and visualize the result.
Using the structure of the bone and the tip cartilage material,
the protruding part must be naturally smoothed down.
Also, in the case of the tip,
because it is drooping,
if the septal cartilage has not pushed it forward,
it should be moved to the position where it would normally be.
After going through these steps,
there is no need to define the shape directly;
using the materials already present,
it is moved to the safest and most natural position.
Performing surgery in this way is the basic hump nose rhinoplasty procedure.

Some patients have both the bone and the septal cartilage enlarged,
so at first glance there does not seem to be a problem,
but the tip is significantly drooped.
In such cases,
there is of course no need to perform much additional surgery on the bone.
By using more tip material to match the proportion with the bridge,
hump nose correction can be performed in a way that preserves the bone as it is.

Conversely, some people have a very high nasal bridge
and the tip is not very drooped.
If the hump were to be removed entirely in such cases,
a great deal of bone would need to be shaved down.
After osteotomy, the sides must be brought together,
and the most important thing in nasal bone surgery is
that there is an airway beneath the nasal bone.
If hump nose rhinoplasty is shaved too aggressively,
the “roof” of the nasal airway, the nasal bone, will be opened.
That is why, when bringing the bones together from both sides,
if the roof does not close properly when the bones are positioned,
a saddle nose can occur,
and if silicone is inserted while the roof is not properly closed,
there is a risk of infection,
so great care is required.
In such cases, if there is room in the upper bone framework,
it may actually be better not to shave it down,
but instead to add silicone and leave the middle and lower parts slightly alone.
In other words, even if there is a slight hump-like appearance,
we recommend performing hump nose rhinoplasty in a way that preserves volume.

Do you really have to remove a hump nose?
As many of you know,
there are many celebrities with hump noses as well.
Representative examples include actors Han So-hee and Song Kang.
Having a hump does not necessarily make someone look unattractive.
Even if your nose is in the hump-nose category,
it may certainly have strengths,
and it may also have drawbacks.
That is why, regarding this issue,
we hope you visit our clinic and make a wise decision about the direction in which to shape your nose.

Rather than proceeding forcefully while considering only the aesthetic side,
if you carefully examine the condition and structure of the nasal bone
and undergo a 1:1 customized surgery suited to you,
you can safely achieve your ideal nose shape.
If you are worried about hump nose or the shape of your nose,
please visit us with a relaxed mind,
and make your decision after a thorough consultation.
