About double eyelid surgery,
let’s take a look at some common questions.
Today, together with Obje Plastic Surgery,
I’d like to talk about
points you should definitely know before Gangnam double eyelid surgery.

Just like with any surgery,
a natural recovery process follows after double eyelid surgery.
Having surgery does not mean the shape
is created immediately,
and through this series of recovery processes,
it gradually settles into place.
Usually, swelling occurs right after surgery,
and while the time it takes for swelling to go down
varies by person,
it usually takes at least 2 to 3 months.
At first, it can look swollen, like a sausage,
and may appear severe and awkward,
but as time passes,
the swelling subsides
and the shape gradually becomes more natural.
If the double eyelid line looks thinner after surgery,
you can think of it as the swelling going down
and returning to the natural original line.

Why does the area above the eyes become puffy after double eyelid surgery?
If the area above the eyes becomes thick
and the eyes look like sausages after surgery,
there can be two main reasons.
First, as mentioned earlier, it may be due to swelling.
From right after surgery
until the swelling has almost completely gone down,
the area may look thicker than the original line
due to swelling.
This naturally resolves over time
as the swelling goes down.
Even after several months, there are cases where
the swelling has gone down completely but the area above the eyes still looks thick and awkward.
This usually can happen in people with thick skin.
It often appears when sagging skin is removed
and a double eyelid is created.
As the sagging skin is removed,
the relatively thick skin
comes to cover the double eyelid line,
and because of this, the area can look thick and awkward,
and, as people often say,
it may give a severe impression.
In such cases, the thick feeling may remain
even as time passes.
To prevent this,
when performing double eyelid surgery on sagging skin,
don’t remove everything only from the eyelids;
instead, if some of the sagging skin is addressed in advance
through brow lift or forehead brow lift, for example,
and then the double eyelid is created,
the amount of eyelid skin removed during surgery
will be reduced,
which can lessen the thick and severe impression to some extent.

Is there a difference in impression between non-incisional and incisional methods?
The idea that non-incisional double eyelid surgery looks natural
and incisional double eyelid surgery looks more intense
is not true.
Both methods create a double eyelid,
but it seems that way because the patients who undergo these procedures are different.
In general, non-incisional double eyelid surgery is often performed on patients
who do not have sagging skin
and have thin skin with a well-defined double eyelid line.
Because of that, even after Gangnam double eyelid surgery,
a naturally formed double eyelid is the case in most instances.
Of course, even with a non-incisional method,
if the double eyelid line is forced too high,
it can look like a sausage and create a strong impression.

Patients who undergo incisional double eyelid surgery
usually have a lot of sagging skin,
relatively thick skin,
or a lot of orbital fat.
In particular, when middle-aged patients undergo double eyelid surgery,
the amount of skin that must be removed can be substantial,
and after surgery, the thin eyelid skin is removed,
while the relatively thicker skin
covers the double eyelid,
which can make the impression look stronger
and give a severe feeling.
In other words, a more severe impression can be especially noticeable in patients
whose skin is thick
and who have a large amount of sagging.
In such cases, it is better to remove only a minimal amount of eyelid skin.
Usually, eyebrow sagging is also present,
so one method is to lift the sagging skin once through a forehead brow lift.
Or, another good option may be to remove and lift the sagging skin on the outer side once through a brow lift.

Does the eyebrow position go down after double eyelid surgery?
If the eyebrow position goes down after Gangnam double eyelid surgery,
the eyebrow did not actually droop downward because of the surgery.
You can think of it as returning to the person’s original eyebrow position.
When the skin is significantly sagging,
people may unconsciously lift their eyebrows to open their eyes because it feels stuffy.
This is often described as “opening the eyes with the eyebrows.”
When double eyelid surgery is performed,
if the sagging skin is neatly addressed
and the line is defined,
the habit of raising the eyebrows to open the eyes naturally disappears,
and the eyebrows may come down.
In this case,
lifting the sagging eyebrows through a forehead brow lift
is thought to be the most effective option.

Does the distance between the eyes and eyebrows become narrower after double eyelid surgery?
It varies from person to person,
but there are people whose eyebrows and eyes are unusually close together.
In these people, when sagging skin is removed
and a double eyelid is created,
the space between the eyes and eyebrows may look even narrower,
and, as mentioned earlier,
as the habit of lifting the eyebrows disappears,
the eyebrows may droop down even more.
In such cases, the most important solution may actually be
to minimize the amount of skin excision from the eyelids.
To do that,
it may also help to first lift the sagging eyebrows
through a forehead brow lift
and then perform Gangnam double eyelid surgery.
