In this post,
we will look at
the most effective way
to treat dark circles.
First, before learning how to get rid of Gangnam dark circles,
we need to understand
why dark circles appear in the first place.
Dark circle causes: 4 types
The first case is when the skin under the eyes becomes dark and
pigmentation develops.
The second reason is when the skin is thin,
so the blood vessels or muscles underneath
show through.
The third cause is
when fat protrudes under the eyes.
The final cause of dark circles is
when the area under the eyes is so sunken
that shadows form and dark circles appear.
We have classified the main causes of dark circles into four types.

In fact, for the two causes mentioned first—
darkening of the skin itself and
the visibility of structures beneath the skin—
there are treatments such as lasers.
However, a perfect method for solving
the issue of skin color itself
is still under research.
On the other hand, the two causes mentioned later—
that is, cases where fat protrudes and
cases where the area under the eyes is severely sunken—
can often be improved greatly
with relatively simple surgery or procedures.
Simply put,
when fat protrudes,
what is needed is to remove the protrusion.
Conversely, when there is a lack of fat,
something needs to be added.
A representative method for addressing protruding fat
is the lower eyelid fat repositioning surgery,
which is performed very often at our clinic.
Alternatively, lower blepharoplasty,
which also adjusts the muscle and skin,
can also be a surgical treatment
for Gangnam dark circles.
On the other hand, the representative treatments
for cases where the area under the eyes is excessively sunken
include fillers or fat grafting.
Fillers are simple,
and as is widely known,
they are also an easy treatment to access.
However, the biggest drawback is that
an externally manufactured substance
is being placed into the body.
That is why, at our clinic,
when it comes to a method for filling volume,
we recommend fat grafting over fillers.

Pre-check items before lower eyelid fat repositioning
First, it is important to make an accurate assessment
of what characteristics your eyes and surrounding structures have.
Even if you feel that the area under the eyes looks hollow because fat is protruding,
you may also feel that the eyes themselves look sunken,
making the whole area appear hollow.
However, these two cases may seem like they produce the same result—
an exhausted-looking eye area—
but in reality, they have completely different causes.
Therefore, completely different approaches
must be used when deciding on the surgical method.
For example,
if the eyes themselves are sunken,
and you undergo lower eyelid fat repositioning surgery
simply to remove the hollow appearance,
you should not do that.
This is because after surgery,
the eyes may appear even more sunken,
and look more hollow and tired.
For such patients,
fat grafting, rather than fat repositioning,
or performing fat repositioning and fat grafting at the same time,
may be a better option.
Second,
an objective evaluation of
how much elasticity your skin has
is also important.
If you are in your 20s or 30s and your skin elasticity is well maintained,
lower eyelid fat repositioning through a conjunctival incision alone
can produce relatively satisfying results.
However, if the skin is significantly loosened
and lacks elasticity,
it is better to consider lower blepharoplasty,
which adds methods such as removing the sagging skin
and adjusting the inner muscle.
Usually, for older patients,
lower eyelid fat repositioning through a conjunctival incision alone
may have limitations,
so lower blepharoplasty is considered.
In fact, age is not an absolute standard,
and because the decision depends on the skin condition
of the person receiving treatment,
an accurate consultation that takes these points into account
before Gangnam dark circle surgery is the most important thing.

And one additional tip:
even when the surgery is the same lower eyelid fat repositioning,
there can be many different correction methods
in how the moved fat and orbital septum
are fixed to the lower area.
Accordingly,
the surgical results can also vary greatly.
If you have the time to look into it carefully,
it would be good to learn about these detailed surgical methods
and compare them well.
At our clinic, we use a fixation method called the 'double-fixation repositioning method'
as the standard,
and then combine various fixation methods as needed.
These methods are
the Obje Plastic Surgery Clinic's specialty,
developed through years of experience and research.
