As a result, the relatively bulky and heavy fat pushes against the orbital septum, making it look as though under-eye fat is protruding on the skin surface. In reality, it is not that fat has directly increased because the area under the eyes has gained weight, but rather that the orbital septum has lost its former firmness, making the under-eye area appear protruded.

Let me explain this more simply using the cushion example mentioned above. If the cushion cover is firm, the filling inside stays in place, so the cushion retains its original shape well.

But if the cushion cover becomes loose, the filling will move around freely inside. Then the cushion will no longer keep its original firm shape and will become uneven. This is exactly the same as under-eye fat pushing against the orbital septum.

So, while repositioning the fat is important, the most important point in under-eye fat repositioning is to make the pouch that surrounds the fat—the orbital septum—return to a firm state like before.

If microfat grafting is like transplanting grains of rice as they are, single fat cell grafting is like turning the grains of rice into rice flour, then mixing that rice flour with water to make it soft before transplanting it. You can imagine what would happen if grain-shaped particles were placed into the thin under-eye skin.

Therefore, because the fat can be transplanted evenly without becoming uneven like in microfat grafting, it can smooth out tired-looking under-eyes. Just as concealer is applied in thin layers, it can delicately cover dark circles layer by layer, which is why single fat cell grafting is also excellent for improving dark circles.
