How Do You Find the Right Place for Rhinoplasty?

The key points of rhinoplasty explained by a plastic surgery specialist

Since January, the start of the year, more people than usual have visited Objet Plastic Surgery, and February is also continuing with grateful foot traffic. It seems that during the winter season, many people want to take advantage of schedules such as the year-end holidays, Lunar New Year, and school breaks to undergo plastic surgery.

Especially since around last December, more and more people have been visiting us for rhinoplasty consultations. Since Objet Plastic Surgery has many reviews of rhinoplasty cases that are known to be challenging, such as bulbous noses, aquiline noses, and revision rhinoplasty, we have had more opportunities to see patients with a wide variety of nose surgery cases.

As I have been consulting with so many people, I noticed that there are common questions people ask when looking for a place that does rhinoplasty well. I kept thinking that it would be helpful if people knew these things before a consultation... so I sat down in front of the monitor and decided to share them through this blog.

What are the trendy rhinoplasty lines these days?

If you have looked into rhinoplasty, you have probably come across many of the currently popular nose shapes. Because people search online for trendy nose lines and then come in for consultations, many patients also say during consultations that they want their noses to look pretty in a style that is popular these days.

However, at Objet Plastic Surgery, we do not perform surgery that simply follows trends. That is because, in plastic surgery, whether it is rhinoplasty or eyelid surgery, trends are not the first thing to consider.

Everyone has their own unique aura. So if surgery is done blindly following trends, the person’s original beauty is often overshadowed.

That is why, rather than focusing on trend indicators often called “trends,” we place the greatest importance on finding the nose line that suits each patient best so that their own unique beauty can stand out.

In particular, because the nose defines the center of the face, it is important to operate in a way that matches the individual patient’s facial features and overall impression.

In general, people who are stressed about having a low nose consider rhinoplasty because they want a higher bridge. But it is difficult to simply say that a sharply elevated nose is beautiful.

The 기준 for what counts as a “low nose” also varies from person to person, so it can differ whether someone is referring to a low bridge or a low nasal tip. Or it may be that the nasal tip looks blunt or droops downward, making the nose feel low.

Because nose shapes vary so much, our clinic carefully examines the patient’s face shape and unique aura before rhinoplasty and performs the procedure with a customized design.

Rhinoplasty is not only about raising the bridge.

What do you think is important in rhinoplasty? As mentioned earlier, many people worry about having a low nose, so they think rhinoplasty is about raising the bridge as much as possible. That can make it easy to think that the bridge is everything in rhinoplasty.

In fact, increasing the bridge itself is not difficult. It can be done by using an implant that matches the height the patient wants. Since silicone is commonly used, people often judge rhinoplasty as being determined by how many millimeters of silicone were inserted.

When I consult with patients, I also often see conversations that focus mainly on how many millimeters the bridge will be raised. People who prefer a glamorous style sometimes even ask to raise it as much as possible, however much is possible.

But at Objet Plastic Surgery, we never perform rhinoplasty that is decided solely by bridge height. That is because there is another important part: the nasal tip that supports the bridge.

If you touch the nose, the firmest part is the bridge. That is because the bridge contains the nasal bone, which maintains the shape of the nose line. And because the nasal tip, which connects below the bridge, is made of cartilage, it is relatively softer than the bridge.

So when additional force is applied to raise the bridge with silicone or another implant, the role of the nasal tip in supporting it becomes even more important.

In revision rhinoplasty consultations, the most common thing I hear is, “My nasal tip dropped.” Whenever I see patients who had rhinoplasty at another clinic and then came to Objet Plastic Surgery because their nasal tip dropped, I first say just one thing.

This is also the part I explain most carefully to people receiving rhinoplasty from me for the first time. That is how important the role of the nasal tip is in rhinoplasty, and I want to emphasize that again.

Because the nasal tip is originally soft already (not completely floppy, but much softer relative to the bridge and nasal bone ^^), if the nasal tip is not given enough structural support comparable to the bridge, the tip will inevitably drop after rhinoplasty.

That is why, at Objet Plastic Surgery, we focus on making sure the nasal tip can properly support the bridge by operating on the tip first and then raising the bridge to match the height of the tip, creating harmony between the two.

Raising a nose, raising a building

The key is the pillar that keeps it from collapsing.

When building a building, the pillars that can support it so that it can rise to multiple stories are extremely important. If there are no pillars where they should be, if there are far too few pillars, or if they are poorly made, the building can collapse at any time.

Rhinoplasty is the same. That is why the nasal tip, which serves as the pillar of the nose, must be properly made.

As the expression “raising the nose” suggests, rhinoplasty is similar to building a tall structure, so the role of the pillar is truly important.

Because the nasal tip serves as that pillar, I want to say that the essence of rhinoplasty is to properly support the tip and create lasting strength so that it does not collapse even after a long time.

The bridge should be raised only after the nasal tip has been properly made, with the proportions carefully calculated according to the point where it connects to the tip. That is why a clinic that simply makes the bridge very high cannot necessarily be considered a place that does rhinoplasty well.

Do not look only for the best place for rhinoplasty.

Because it is a difficult surgery, I recommend that you study enough and make your rhinoplasty decision carefully. And if you still have many questions about rhinoplasty, I recommend getting as many consultations as possible.

If you are considering rhinoplasty, you have probably already had many consultations in Gangnam. Gangnam is a place with a concentration of plastic surgery clinics, so much so that it is called the mecca of plastic surgery. Of course, most clinics try to explain things in as much detail as possible during consultations, but because competition is intense, they also tend to emphasize points that patients can easily recognize.

That is why I recommend getting consultations from as many places as possible and making your rhinoplasty decision carefully after you have built up a sufficient understanding of rhinoplasty.
