Nose Surgery Recovery Period
Why Director Lee Kyung-mook Emphasizes ‘3 Months’

Hello.
This is Obje Plastic Surgery.
If you are thinking about nose surgery
or have already scheduled your surgery date,
it is only natural to first worry about recovery.
When you look up the nose surgery recovery period online,
there are comments like “Two weeks is enough,”
and also comments saying “You should be careful for a month.”
Because the answers are all different,
it only gets more confusing about
which standard is correct.
Director Lee Kyung-mook of Obje Plastic Surgery says,
“Be careful for 3 months,
and you can be happy for a lifetime.”

Today, we will explain
why Director Lee emphasizes 3 months,
and what you should be careful about
during this period.
If you read to the end,
you will understand not just the passage of time,
but why this period is important.
The Reason You Should Not Let Your Guard Down After Bleeding Stops
Many people probably know that
the first few days of the nose surgery recovery period
are the most sensitive.
However, even if the bleeding has stopped,
you should not think it is safe now.

During nose surgery,
blood vessels are inevitably damaged.
At that point, the medical staff
closes the visible blood vessels with electrocautery.
The important thing here is that
this blocked state is not permanent.
The area that was cauterized is only
temporarily sealed,
so if a few days have passed after surgery
and you apply force or do strenuous activity,
your blood pressure rises,
and the cauterized area can open again,
causing bleeding.
That is definitely not a good situation
during recovery.

After nose surgery,
people are always reminded:
“Do not cough
and do not strain your face.”
In particular, men may work out at the gym
and end up tensing their facial muscles a lot.
You should also avoid those kinds of actions,
as they can affect the cauterized area as well.
In the end, it is a mistake to think,
“The hospital already stopped the bleeding,
so it probably won’t bleed anymore.”
Is It Enough to Just Avoid ‘Forcing Yourself’?
Be Careful About These 2 Things Too!
You may have also heard that
you should avoid aerobic exercise
during the nose surgery recovery period.
This is not simply because you sweat.

Unlike eye surgery,
nose surgery involves the process of building up the nose.
An implant is inserted,
and then it is fixed to the existing nose
with thin sutures.
Because these sutures are extremely thin,
if the nose shakes,
there is a risk that the sutures may break.
Imagine this.
You have set up a structure and fixed it with strings,
but if the structure keeps shaking,
can the strings hold it in place?
Naturally, the chance of them breaking is high.

The problem is that if the sutures break,
the raised nose may drop down
or the silicone implant may move.
So activities like running
or brisk walking,
which cause the upper body to move up and down,
should be avoided as much as possible.

You should also be careful with wearing glasses
for similar reasons.
If they are lightweight glasses,
wearing them may be okay starting around 2–3 weeks,
but if you wear heavy glasses,
it is better to be careful for about a month.
If the weight of the glasses keeps pressing on the nose
before the implant has properly settled,
it may affect the result.

But why exactly ‘3 months’?
As explained so far,
the inside of the nose goes through
recovery for much longer than what is visible on the outside.
After the stitches are removed and the swelling goes down somewhat,
it is natural to think,
“Isn’t it okay now?”
In reality, however,
the tissues need quite a long time
to fully settle.
Around 3 to 4 weeks after surgery,
wearing glasses or going to a sauna
may be allowed,
but for the tissues inside the nose and the implant
to adhere stably,
about 3 months need to pass.
That is why, during the nose surgery recovery period,
you should avoid strenuous exercise,
actions that strain the face,
and situations where direct pressure is applied to the nose
as much as possible.

It may feel a little uncomfortable
and restrictive,
but following this period carefully
is ultimately the most certain investment
for a nose you will keep for life.
Today, we explained
why the 3-month period is important
during nose surgery recovery.
It is not simply a matter of
“just in case, be careful for a long time,”
but rather because of these three reasons:
the fact that bleeding control is temporary,
the fact that the sutures holding the nose up can break,
and the fact that time is needed for the tissues to fully stabilize.

What matters is not that recovery ends quickly,
but that it settles properly and lasts for a long time.
Director Lee Kyung-mook of Obje Plastic Surgery
carefully guides patients on the principles
that must be followed during recovery
for results they can be satisfied with for life
after nose surgery.
In particular, based on the fixation principles of implants
and the characteristics of blood vessel cauterization,
he explains in detail why certain actions should be avoided,
so that patients do not simply hear
that they “should not” do something,
but can understand it themselves
and follow it on their own.
Even if 3 months feels long,
if you endure it a little and stay careful,
after that you will be able to meet
a satisfying nose that lets you smile confidently.
