Is it enough to just choose the right materials for nose surgery?
- Dr. Lee Kyung-mook’s answer

Hello.
This is Objet Plastic Surgery.
When you look for information about nose surgery,
there comes a point where the discussion
starts to focus on materials.
Some posts say silicone is better,
others say autologous cartilage is safer,
and others say rib cartilage should be used.
The more you read, the more you may start to think:
"I guess I just need to choose a clinic
that uses good materials."
That is why many people try to choose a hospital
based on nose surgery materials,
and in consultations, there are also quite a few
who ask about the materials first.
But to be honest,
materials alone do not determine the outcome
of nose surgery.
Today, I’ll explain in order what role materials
actually play in nose surgery methods,
and what you should look at before materials.
If you read to the end,
you’ll have a clearer idea of
what to check first before nose surgery.
Can nose surgery be done by just choosing the right materials?
The answer is NO!
In nose surgery methods, materials are an important factor,
but there is something even more important than materials.
That is proportion design and structural analysis.

While looking at the condition of the nasal cartilage,
skin thickness, septal condition, and so on overall,
we decide together what proportion changes are needed
and what kind of structure should be created.
To use a cooking analogy,
just because you use good ingredients
doesn’t automatically mean you’ll make delicious food.
What kind of dish are you making,
and how should you cook the ingredients
for that dish?
You need to understand the specific recipe first.
Nose surgery is the same.

No matter how good the materials are,
without a proportion design that fits the facial structure,
it is difficult to achieve the desired result.
Only after the structural analysis is accurately completed
do we choose the materials suitable for bringing that design to life.
It is not the materials that create the result;
materials are placed on top of the design.
Materials are important, of course
Difference between bridge and tip materials!
That said, it’s not that nose surgery materials
are unimportant.
Materials serve different roles depending on the area,
and they need to be chosen to match
the characteristics of each area.
The nose is broadly divided into the bridge and the tip.
For the bridge, silicone implants are often used.
This is because it is easier to stably create
the desired height and line,
and it is advantageous for maintaining shape.
The tip is different.

Because it is made of soft cartilage tissue,
if you only raise the height without a support structure,
it may sag over time.
That is why the tip needs internal support first
in order to maintain its shape.
So in most tip surgeries,
autologous cartilage such as ear cartilage,
septal cartilage, or rib cartilage is used
to create a supporting structure for the tip.

The reason the combination of a silicone bridge
and autologous cartilage for the tip
is commonly used is
because the materials are selected
according to the characteristics of each area.
In the end, the most important core is
knowing the OO of the face
The nose is located at the center of the face.
Among nostril symmetry, bridge line, and tip height,
if even one is off,
it becomes immediately noticeable.
So when deciding on a nose surgery method,
what must be done before choosing materials is
learning to accurately read that person’s facial structure.
The approach is completely different
for a case where the tip is already high
and a case where the tip is low or drooping.
If the tip is already sufficiently high,
pushing it up further unnecessarily
can instead lead to an unnatural result.
On the other hand, if the tip is drooping,
the priority is to create a structure
that secures enough support.

The recent trend in nose surgery is also shifting
away from a nose that is high and flashy
and toward creating a natural nose
that harmonizes with the whole face.

To achieve results like this,
proportion design and structural analysis must come first,
and the nose surgery method follows as the process
for bringing that design to life.
Today, I organized what role materials play
in nose surgery,
and what should be checked before materials.

Before comparing nose surgery materials,
it is much more important to first understand
what condition your nasal structure is in,
and what proportion changes are needed
for the face as a whole.
Materials are a means of
bringing that design to life.
Dr. Lee Kyung-mook of Objet Plastic Surgery
first establishes the overall proportion design,
including whether osteotomy is needed
and the tip support structure,
and makes it a principle to decide
on the appropriate materials and nose surgery method
based on that.
Especially in a first nose surgery,
we help make the recovery process after surgery
more comfortable
by using a method that does not insert
unnecessary nasal packing.

choose your nose surgery method wisely.
