Precautions for Under-Eye Fat Repositioning?
Director Kim Hyun-jo’s guide to choosing the right surgery

Hello.
This is Obje Plastic Surgery.
If you are searching for precautions for under-eye fat repositioning,
it probably means you have already learned
quite a bit about eye surgery.
But the more you look into it,
the more information there is,
and that can make things even more confusing.
You may be worrying longer because
the 기준 for which surgery is right for your eyes
is not clear.
In fact, the key point of precautions for under-eye fat repositioning is
not the surgery itself,
but whether you chose a surgery
that is right for your eyes.

Today, I’ll divide this into two cases
and explain which surgery suits which type of eyes,
and if it is hard to choose between the two,
I’ll organize what option may be better.
If you read to the end,
the 기준 for choosing surgery will become clear.
When is under-eye fat repositioning a good match?
It is fine if your eyes are like this
To talk about precautions for under-eye fat repositioning,
we first need to know
which under-eye conditions this surgery is suitable for.
Under-eye fat repositioning is a surgery that
repositions protruding under-eye fat
to smooth out the bulging area.

At this time, because it is performed through the conjunctiva inside the eye
without cutting the skin,
there is usually very little visible trace on the outside.
Swelling and bruising are relatively mild,
and recovery tends to be fairly quick.
That is why many people
first think of under-eye fat repositioning
when concerns about the under-eye area arise.
But there is an important point here.
Under-eye fat repositioning is a surgery suited for cases where
only the fat is the problem.

If skin elasticity is still maintained,
and the under-eye area has not sagged,
and only the fat is bulging out,
then repositioning the fat alone can lead to a clean improvement.
This is often seen in people in their 20s and 30s,
that is, relatively younger age groups.
Conversely,
if there are other problems in addition to fat,
this surgery alone may not solve them.

If the skin is loosened
or the under-eye muscle is also sagging,
and only the fat is repositioned,
then the stretched skin and muscle remain as they are,
so the sagging appearance may actually stand out more.
It is similar to spreading the filling evenly inside a blanket,
but the blanket cover has stretched out
and remains loose.
The inside may be organized,
but if the outer skin remains,
the under-eye area can still look saggy.
In cases like this,
choosing under-eye fat repositioning alone requires caution.
This is the most important part
of the precautions for under-eye fat repositioning.
Please remember that under-eye fat repositioning
is a surgery that solves only the problem of fat.

Then what surgery is suitable
when under-eye fat repositioning is not enough?
If not only the fat,
but also the skin is loosened
and the muscle is sagging as well,
you should consider lower blepharoplasty.
Lower blepharoplasty involves making an incision directly below the eyelashes,
repositioning protruding fat,
pulling up the stretched muscle,
and also trimming away excess skin.

It is a method that corrects the three structures under the eyes—
fat, muscle, and skin—all at once.
It is mainly suitable for people in their 40s and older,
whose under-eye aging has progressed in a complex way.

If a lot of fat is protruding under the eyes,
the tear trough has become deeper,
and the skin has loosened so wrinkles are forming,
it is difficult to reverse these changes by moving only the fat.
In cases like this,
if you choose under-eye fat repositioning,
the bulging area may be improved,
but the sagging skin
and stretched muscle remain,
so it is difficult to achieve a satisfying result.

The opposite is also true.
If only a small amount of fat is protruding,
but you choose lower blepharoplasty,
the incision area becomes unnecessarily larger,
and the recovery period becomes longer.
In the end, what matters is not the surgery method itself,
but accurately knowing which surgery is right
for your current eye condition.

Whether it is only a fat problem,
or whether the skin and muscle have changed too,
this distinction is the starting point for choosing surgery.
I’m somewhere in between?
Then try ‘OO lower blepharoplasty’!
If you have read this far,
you may be wondering one thing.
What should you choose when under-eye fat repositioning alone is not enough,
but lower blepharoplasty feels too burdensome?
There are actually many people with such an ambiguous under-eye condition,
where fat is protruding and the skin is slightly loosened,
but it is not severe enough to justify lower blepharoplasty.
The surgery that can be considered in this case
is Obje’s ‘dual lower blepharoplasty.’

Dual lower blepharoplasty combines
the advantages of under-eye fat repositioning
and lower blepharoplasty.
While repositioning the fat through the conjunctiva inside the eye,
it also makes a partial incision below the eyelashes
to correct the loosened skin
and part of the sagging muscle together.
Unlike lower blepharoplasty, where the incision line extends all the way to the outer corner of the eye,
only the necessary area is partially incised,
so the incision burden is reduced
while still supplementing areas that cannot be fully improved by fat repositioning alone.

The recovery period is shorter than with lower blepharoplasty,
and the trace is not noticeable.
If you were looking into precautions for under-eye fat repositioning and thought,
“Where do I fit in?”,
it would be good to keep this dual lower blepharoplasty option in mind as well.

Today, we looked at cases where under-eye fat repositioning is suitable
and cases where it is not,
the characteristics of people who need lower blepharoplasty,
and the dual lower blepharoplasty option worth considering
when it is hard to choose between the two.
The most important thing for a satisfying result
is not the name of the surgery,
but accurately understanding your current under-eye condition
and choosing the surgery that matches it.

Director Kim Hyun-jo of Obje Plastic Surgery
carefully examines the degree of under-eye bulging,
the elasticity of the skin,
the degree of muscle sagging,
and the depth of the tear trough,
and then determines whether under-eye fat repositioning is sufficient,
whether lower blepharoplasty is needed,
or whether dual lower blepharoplasty is appropriate.
Even with the same concern,
the surgical direction changes depending on the condition,
so before deciding on surgery,
we recommend first receiving a consultation to understand
what condition your under-eye area is in.
