Facelift effects?
"These people" should avoid it!
Summary by Director Shin Jong-in

Hello.
This is Obje Plastic Surgery.
If you clicked on this post
because of the title,
you are probably not just curious about
facelift effects,
but also wondering whether it is the right surgery for you.
A facelift can create dramatic changes,
but it is not a surgery
that can be recommended for everyone.
So today, we will organize
when it is better not to rush into a facelift,
what you can realistically expect,
and how to complement what surgery alone cannot fully address.
If you read to the end,
it should help you find the direction
that fits you best.
If this applies to you,
please do not rush.
It is true that a facelift can have a large effect,
but if the conditions are not right,
the result may fall short of expectations.
First, let’s look at people in their 30s.
People in their 30s often have skin
that has not yet begun to sag in earnest.

If you undergo a facelift at this stage,
you may not feel a noticeable change.
In addition, a facelift is a surgery
that can become more difficult
if performed repeatedly in the same area.
Once the surgery is done,
adhesions can form between the skin and the deeper tissues,
and the tissue structure also changes.
If you later need another lift in that state,
a more delicate approach will be necessary.

So the timing is generally appropriate
when the skin has clearly begun to sag,
usually after the 40s.
Next are cases where the skin is thick and firm.
A facelift is a surgery that separates
the tissue beneath the skin from the bone,
then lifts and fixes it upward.
This process is called "dissection," and if the skin and tissue are thick and firm,
the separation itself becomes more difficult.
And when the skin is thick,
even if it is pulled in the same way,
the lifting effect may be less visible,
and more careful management is required
during the surgery.

This often applies to men.
Compared with women,
men tend to have thicker skin,
which increases the difficulty of surgery.
For the same reason,
Koreans tend to have thicker skin and firmer tissue
than Westerners,
so this must be fully considered
when planning the surgery.

Lastly, if you have underlying conditions
such as diabetes or high blood pressure,
you should also make a careful decision.
If blood sugar control is not stable,
more thorough management is needed
during recovery after surgery,
and if you have high blood pressure,
sufficient preoperative preparation
must also be done.

In such cases, rather than deciding on surgery first,
the proper order is to check your current health status first.
Facelift effects:
what happens when the conditions are right?
For those who are a good fit,
a facelift can produce
quite significant effects.
The most obvious change is
that sagging lines are lifted.

The collapsed jawline caused by cheeks sagging downward,
and the loose line extending down to the neck
can be refined.
Because this surgery directly lifts
the structure beneath the skin,
the degree of change tends to feel larger
than with other procedures.
Also,
the duration of the effect is relatively long.
Botox usually starts to wear off in 3 to 6 months,
and fillers begin to lose effect
within about 6 months to 1 year.
Thread lifting also tends to return to its original position
over time as the threads dissolve.
In comparison, a facelift physically fixes the tissue upward,
so the results tend to last longer.
That said,
there is one thing that should be made clear here.

A facelift does not solve every wrinkle.
What a facelift does well is lifting sagging skin and tissue.
Nasolabial folds formed as the cheeks descend,
and jowls created as the jawline sags,
can be improved through a facelift.
However, fine lines or deep grooves
that formed as the skin itself aged
cannot be resolved by a facelift alone.
So to properly understand the results of a facelift,
you need to distinguish between
"improving sagging lines" and "improving skin wrinkles."

Then what about fine lines?
Consider this together with "this"
As mentioned earlier,
a facelift is strong at lifting sagging skin.
But if you want to address fine lines
or deep grooves on the skin surface all at once,
additional measures are needed
beyond surgery.

Common examples include fillers and fat grafting.
Areas such as the cheeks, temples,
and forehead that appear hollow
as volume is lost
may not be sufficiently corrected
by lifting alone with a facelift.
In such cases,
refilling the hollow areas with volume
helps complete the lifted line more naturally.
If the skin texture itself is rough
or there are many fine lines,
procedures that improve the skin,
such as skin boosters, can help.
Skin boosters work by supplying moisture and nutrients
into the skin to improve
its elasticity and texture.
Simply put, if a facelift is a surgery that corrects the face's "structure,"
then fillers, fat grafting, and skin boosters
play the role of improving the skin's "quality."
If only the structure is corrected,
the framework may stand properly,
but the surface may still feel lacking,
and if only the skin is managed,
the surface may improve
while the sagging lines remain.
A high-quality result can be expected
only when both are done together.

Which procedure to combine,
and how to combine them,
depends on each person's skin condition,
the degree of sagging,
and where volume has been lost,
so it is best to check these details carefully
during the preoperative consultation.

Today, we looked at facelift effects,
which cases are not recommended,
and how to supplement what a facelift alone cannot fully address.
It is true that a facelift is one of the most powerful ways
to lift sagging skin.

However, if the timing is not right
or the skin conditions are not suitable,
it is wiser to first consider another method
that fits your current state,
rather than forcing the procedure.
Director Shin Jong-in of Obje Plastic Surgery
checks skin thickness, tissue elasticity,
and the direction of skin sagging together,
then decides in one step
how far the facelift should be extended,
where the fixation point should be placed,
and which areas need volume supplementation.
By distinguishing between cases where a facelift alone is enough
and cases where skin improvement is also needed,
we lift the sagging lines
while creating results that also naturally refine the skin texture.
If you are considering a facelift,
instead of only looking for the surgical method,
we recommend starting with a consultation
that also examines your current skin condition
and the degree of sagging.

This has been Obje Plastic Surgery.
Thank you.
