Solving Under-Eye Aging with
Lower Blepharoplasty!
<Thank You Lower Bleph>
As we age, aging begins in various parts of the body.
In particular, the skin is an area where aging is easily visible.
When the skin’s elasticity cells decrease and their activity declines,
sagging and wrinkles occur.
The eye area is especially prone to aging because the skin is thin and sensitive.
The lower eyelids have a weaker structure than the upper eyelids,
so they can easily sag and develop wrinkles.
Let’s take a closer look at the causes of these changes.

Why do changes under the eyes occur?
First, as we age,
the skin elasticity around the bones below the eyes declines,
and the muscles weaken, causing the area to sag downward.
As the skin and muscles attached to the eye socket bone loosen,
the fat under the eyes bulges forward.
In addition, as the amount of facial muscle and fat decreases,
the hollowing of the tear trough can become more pronounced.
As a result, the under-eye fat can become uneven,
and dark circles may create a darker overall impression.

To address these age-related changes in the lower eyelids,
the procedure performed is lower blepharoplasty.
Lower blepharoplasty is a surgery that improves overall issues in the area below the eyes,
such as contour irregularities, hollowness, and eyelid sagging.
It removes sagging skin and muscle under the eyes
and removes or repositions unnecessary fat.
This can help restore under-eye elasticity,
improve wrinkles,
and create a smoother under-eye contour,
resulting in a brighter and cleaner appearance.

Some people may wonder about the difference between lower blepharoplasty
and under-eye fat repositioning.
To put it simply,
if the issue is only protruding under-eye fat
or unevenness in the area,
improvement can usually be achieved sufficiently through
under-eye fat repositioning or under-eye fat removal.
However, if sagging skin, looseness,
and weakening of the under-eye muscles are also present
along with the fat issue,
lower blepharoplasty is needed.
In the case of under-eye fat removal or under-eye fat repositioning,
skin incision and excision are not necessary,
but in lower blepharoplasty,
the sagging orbicularis oculi muscle must be fixed to the orbital periosteum,
and the sagging skin must be removed,
so an incision is required.
This is one of the differences.

There are many small blood vessels and nerves distributed in the area below the eyes.
Therefore, the surgery must be performed with delicate dissection
so that blood vessels and nerves are well preserved.
Also, because the eyelid area tends to sag downward under the influence of gravity,
there is a possibility of ectropion.
(*Ectropion: outward turning of the eyelid; it refers to the condition in which the lower eyelid turns outward.)
Therefore, before proceeding with surgery,
by identifying the characteristics of the individual’s eyelids
and performing conservative treatment when removing eyelid skin,
the possibility of ectropion can be reduced.

At Thank You Plastic Surgery,
we perform customized lower blepharoplasty according to each person’s under-eye condition
to enhance the improvement effect.
First, if the fat protrusion and sagging are severe,
lower eyelid surgery is performed.
After incising the sagging skin and muscle,
the protruding fat is removed.
By firmly fixing the periosteum,
we help reduce the chance of recurrence.

In the stage where the tear trough has become hollow and sagging has begun,
dual lower blepharoplasty is applied.
A small incision is made in the inner conjunctiva and part of the skin,
and under-eye fat removal and repositioning are performed.
After reinforcing and fixing the orbital septum, the area is sutured
to improve the under-eye area.
With minimal incision, scarring is reduced,
and extensive tissue correction is possible.

At Thank You, by preserving the orbicularis oculi muscle,
we minimize ectropion, one of the common side effects of lower blepharoplasty.
In addition, when repositioning under-eye fat,
the orbital septum is tightened and reinforced
to prevent recurrence.
Furthermore, because the surgery is performed while preserving the aegyo-sal line,
it can create a younger-looking
and more lively appearance.

Under-eye plastic surgery, including lower blepharoplasty,
can affect not only outward appearance
but also the function of the eyes
even if only a small problem occurs.
Therefore, please receive surgery from a specialist with extensive anatomical knowledge
and diverse clinical experience
to achieve safe and satisfying results.🤗
