Non-implant rhinoplasty
Let’s Learn About the Features of Materials Used!
Did you know that rhinoplasty also has trends?
Unlike in the past, when the focus was on creating a high and dramatic nose,
a lot of people these days want to create a natural and beautiful nose
that suits their face well.
Many people want customized surgery that does not miss even small details,
such as the line from the bridge to the tip,
the shape of the tip, and the nasolabial angle.
In addition, to prevent inflammation, side effects,
or revision surgery caused by the use of artificial implants,
more and more people are looking into non-implant rhinoplasty.

As many of you may already know,
to explain non-implant rhinoplasty,
it is a rhinoplasty method that uses only highly biocompatible autologous tissue,
such as septal cartilage, ear cartilage, costal cartilage, and dermis,
without using artificial implants like silicone or Gore-Tex.
Because it uses body-friendly autologous tissue instead of artificial implants,
the likelihood of side effects such as a foreign-body sensation,
implant visibility, inflammation, and contracture is significantly lower.
Since it can be used in many cases by using various materials,
more and more people are choosing non-implant rhinoplasty these days.

⭐Advantages of non-implant rhinoplasty⭐
✔ Less foreign-body sensation and a softer feel due to the use of autologous tissue
✔ Natural results with no implant visibility
✔ Lower risk of side effects such as contracture, infection, and inflammation
✔ Recognized like one’s own skin, so there is almost no nasal deformation
✔ Can be applied even in cases with thin skin
✔ Faster recovery compared to standard rhinoplasty

The types of autologous tissue used in non-implant rhinoplasty include
ear cartilage, septal cartilage, costal cartilage, autologous dermis, and fascia.
Because each tissue has different characteristics,
it is important to choose the appropriate material based on the individual.
So, shall we take a closer look at the features of each material?

▶Ear cartilage
Ear cartilage, partially harvested from the front and back of the ear,
has a thin and soft texture and a strength and feel most similar to the cartilage at the tip of the nose.
Therefore, it is a suitable material for those who want to improve the shape of the nasal tip.
However, because the amount is not large, it may not be suitable for those who want major changes.
▶Septal cartilage
This refers to harvesting the cartilage that divides the two nostrils.
It is soft and flexible, and is suitable for forming a natural nose shape.
However, in some patients, it may be difficult to harvest a sufficient amount,
so a precise preoperative diagnosis is necessary.
▶Costal cartilage
This is cartilage harvested from the ribs that connect the rib and the sternum.
It provides an ample amount and has excellent elasticity, making it suitable for those who want major changes.
Its excellent strength and elasticity provide good shape retention,
and it is advantageous for creating a higher nose bridge.
However, the need for an additional procedure to harvest it can be a drawback.

▶Autologous dermis
A skin component that exists between the epidermis and subcutaneous fat,
it is usually harvested from the upper buttock crease area.
It is mainly used to raise the nasal tip or bridge,
or to reinforce thin skin.
▶Fascia
A thin membrane that surrounds muscles, usually using the temporal fascia
or fascia behind the ear,
it is used to fill a dorsal hump or prevent implant visibility.
It has excellent strength and durability, allowing a stable nose shape to be maintained,
but because of its thickness and hardness, naturalness may be somewhat reduced.

As such, the materials used in non-implant rhinoplasty each have their own characteristics and advantages and disadvantages,
so at Thank You Plastic Surgery, we provide 충분한 consultation and diagnosis with a specialist.
Through 3D CT, we accurately determine the condition of the individual nose,
as well as the amount and size of the septal cartilage.
In addition, a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in rhinoplasty
and the ability to skillfully work with various rhinoplasty materials performs non-implant rhinoplasty.
We create a beautiful nose that harmonizes with the face using rhinoplasty materials suited to each individual,
so please feel free to proceed with surgery with confidence.
