If you have had breast surgery and are now looking into revision surgery again, you may feel very unsettled and under significant psychological stress at the thought of a second operation.
Today’s post will be about revision surgery.

Before surgery
In this patient’s case, revision surgery was considered because she simply wanted a larger size.
The usual reasons people look into breast revision surgery are stiffness caused by capsular contracture, implant damage, or, as in this patient’s case, wanting to change the size for a simple size adjustment.
Stages of capsular contracture
-
The breast looks and feels natural, and the implant cannot be felt
-
There are no visible issues, but the implant can be felt to some degree
-
The implant is palpable and the breast begins to feel firm, in a condition recognized by both the patient and the medical staff
-
The breast becomes hard, the shape of the implant begins to deform, and pain is felt
(In severe stages of capsular contracture, the problematic contracted capsule should be removed through an inframammary incision or a periareolar incision, and a new space should be created so that the implant can settle naturally.)
Because revision surgery is performed on tissue that has already undergone surgery, it requires different criteria and planning from the first operation.
Timing of breast revision surgery
Delaying it blindly or rushing into it can both be risky, but the first priority is to accurately determine your condition.
In general, it is safer to undergo revision surgery after at least 6 months to 1 year following the first surgery, once the breast tissue has stabilized sufficiently.
(This can allow for a cleaner removal of the capsule and help minimize new inflammatory reactions.)
After surgery

Revision surgery should not end with just searching online alone in anxiety; it is important to receive an in-person consultation with a specialist to ease your concerns.
At Marble Plastic Surgery, Director Seo Il-beom, who has extensive clinical experience in breast surgery, is achieving positive surgical outcomes.
I hope this post is helpful for those considering breast revision surgery.
