Hello, this is Bellevue Clinic. Today, based on our response to a question from a patient who left a comment on our blog, we would like to share some related information in detail, as it may help you someday(?). Anyone could feel a little concerned in this situation. If you are considering Titanium lifting in the future, please take a moment to read this.
Why does my face feel cool during the treatment
but hot in the evening?
The physiological reason for delayed heat after Titanium treatment
Titanium lifting is widely known as a premium lifting treatment that uses three simultaneous wavelengths to deliver powerful thermal energy to the deep dermis and fascia layers, while its powerful -3°C sapphire cooling system continuously protects the epidermis, significantly reducing pain and thermal stimulation during the procedure.

During a Titanium lifting treatment, the skin may feel cool and comfortable, as though it were being massaged with ice. However, some people become anxious after returning home later that evening or at night because their face becomes red and flushed, accompanied by a heavy sensation of heat.

This heat sensation, which appears several hours later despite there being no noticeable symptoms immediately after the treatment, is not a side effect or inflammation. Rather, it is a very natural part of the lifting process created by the Titanium laser’s unique high-energy retention effect and delayed thermal response mechanism.

When the Titanium laser comes into contact with the skin’s surface, its built-in cooling head forcibly lowers the temperature of the epidermis, temporarily numbing nerve sensation and blocking thermal stimulation. As a result, even though a large amount of high-temperature thermal energy is being delivered deep into the skin, the patient perceives only the coolness on the surface and can receive the treatment comfortably without pain.

However, once the treatment ends and the cooling stimulation that had been pressing against the epidermis fades with time, the high-temperature active thermal energy retained deep in the dermis begins to slowly disperse and be released toward the skin’s surface. In other words, the heat felt in the evening is the result of a delayed transfer response, in which thermal energy within the dermis—previously masked by the cooling layer—is perceived on the skin’s surface later.

In addition, the high thermal energy accumulated in the dermal layer temporarily dilates blood vessels and accelerates microcirculation and metabolism within the tissue. During sleep overnight, this active heat sensation acts as a strong signal that contracts altered collagen in the dermis and induces the synthesis of new elastic fibers.

The gentle, heavy warmth felt from within the face is a sign that cellular regeneration is taking place actively. Therefore, avoid mistaking it for a side effect and placing an ice pack directly on the face or forcibly cooling the heat by washing with cold water. Sudden cooling can extinguish the active heat retained in the dermis all at once and may interfere with Titanium’s tightening and lifting effects.

However, even if the heat that develops in the evening is a beneficial active response, excessive heat can cause moisture in the skin barrier to evaporate, which may be accompanied by temporary dryness and mild itching. In this case, rather than applying cold or ice, gently wash your face with lukewarm water that does not irritate the skin, then apply plenty of a soothing moisturizing cream or barrier-strengthening emollient to create a thick protective moisture layer over the skin’s surface. This is the appropriate aftercare.

Also, on the night of the treatment, it is advisable to rest comfortably and avoid hot saunas, vigorous exercise, and alcohol, all of which can rapidly raise body temperature, so that the heat sensation does not develop into inflammatory irritation.

Stress is, after all, the enemy of good health. Try not to react too sensitively to the physical biological responses before and after the treatment, and remember that they can be part of the natural recovery process. At Bellevue Clinic near Gangnam Station, where we provide personalized aftercare protocols designed to ensure each patient’s comfort, we invite you to look forward to changes in your skin’s healthy elasticity with peace of mind.
All procedures may cause side effects such as swelling, bruising, or erythema depending on the individual, so a thorough consultation with a doctor is necessary.
