Let’s Learn About the Causes and
Treatment Methods of Anorexia Symptoms

Recently, many people are obsessed with the idea that they must diet,
and this can lead to an eating disorder.
As a characteristic of Westernized industrial society, the ideal body image
that many people think of is a slim figure, and as this has become a standard
of beauty, cases of anorexia are becoming more common.
Today, let’s look at what anorexia is, along with the causes of this condition,
its symptoms, and how to treat those symptoms.

Eating disorders are conditions in which abnormal eating habits appear due to
an excessive value being placed on body shape and weight, and they can be broadly
classified into two types.
In the case of bulimia nervosa, a person repeatedly loses control, binge eats
large amounts of food in a short period of time, and repeatedly engages in
extreme weight-control behaviors such as excessive exercise.
In the case of anorexia, also called anorexia nervosa, it refers to a disorder
in which a person tries to maintain an excessively underweight state.

A characteristic of anorexia is weight loss. If someone has this condition,
they may feel fear and anxiety about gaining weight and may feel fat even though
they are not obese.
Because of this, people with anorexia may restrict their meals or deliberately
vomit after eating in order to lose weight.
The causes of anorexia symptoms have not been clearly identified, but they are
generally known to be influenced by biological, social, and psychological factors.

Changes in neurotransmitters, problems with various substances and pathways
involved in appetite and satiety, and changes in energy metabolism may have an
effect.
In addition, as standards of beauty have recently shifted toward thinness,
the social atmosphere that emphasizes exercise and being slim can also lead to
these symptoms.
Furthermore, puberty and social pressure can also be causes, and psychological
factors such as seeing thin celebrities through media like TV and wanting to
be like that can also be a cause.

As symptoms of anorexia, a person may think they are obese even though their
weight is normal, and they may become obsessed with calories every time they eat.
They may also try to induce vomiting after binge eating, feel anxiety and fear
about eating, and feel the need to lose weight throughout the day.
As such, anorexia can develop due to a variety of causes, and because it is
accompanied by diverse symptoms, it is important to receive treatment at the
appropriate time.

If there is a problem with nutritional status or if a serious mental disorder
is present, it is best to improve the symptoms through inpatient treatment.
In addition, nutrition should be provided to gradually increase weight, meals
should be eaten at the same time every day, and because it is related to
psychological issues, psychotherapy is also important.
