Causes of Astigmatism That Makes It Hard to Focus
and Symptoms and Treatment Methods

From the moment we open our eyes in the morning until the moment we go to sleep,
the organ that works without rest is the eyes. For modern people who
use smartphones frequently, eye fatigue can be felt quite strongly.
In addition, many people complain of symptoms where their eyes cannot focus properly,
and there are cases where the vision in front of them becomes blurry,
making objects look unclear because the focus is not right.
Today, we will look at the causes and symptoms of astigmatism,
which can cause these symptoms of difficulty focusing, and ways to
treat and improve the symptoms.

Astigmatism is a condition in which the eye cannot focus properly; when
looking at objects, they do not appear clearly and seem shaky, with the focus
not settling properly.
Because light passing through the lens cannot achieve proper focus,
objects may not appear correctly and the field of vision may not
be properly established.
When light entering the eye focuses on the retina, it is called emmetropia; when it focuses
in front of the retina, it is called myopia; and when it focuses behind the
retina, it is called hyperopia.

If refracted light from the cornea cannot focus at a single point and instead has
two or more focal points, this refractive error is called astigmatism.
Simply put, astigmatism is a condition where the eyes cannot focus properly, and most people
have some degree of astigmatism. However, if the astigmatism is severe,
objects may not appear clearly and may look blurry.
A common cause of astigmatism is found in corneal abnormalities,
and it can be divided into congenital and acquired causes.

In the case of congenital astigmatism, children may inherit the shape of the eyeballs
from parents who have astigmatism, and astigmatism can also occur if the eyelids press on the eyes.
In the case of acquired astigmatism, it occurs due to deformation of the corneal shape,
and excessive eye use, eye diseases such as cataracts, and similar factors can affect its development.
A common symptom of astigmatism is difficulty focusing, which can cause objects to
look unclear and appear double.

Unlike blurring caused by reduced vision, both nearby and distant objects
are out of focus, and you may easily feel eye strain while putting effort into
trying to focus.
As a result, symptoms such as eye pain, redness, and dizziness may appear, so if you have symptoms,
it is important to get examined and receive appropriate treatment.
To treat astigmatism, glasses, contact lenses, or vision correction surgery
can be performed, and the most common and simple correction method is to wear corrective glasses.

If wearing glasses is inconvenient, toric lenses may also be worn, and if correction through
glasses or contact lenses is difficult, treatment can be done through vision correction surgery.
It is also a good idea to make efforts to prevent astigmatism in daily life.
To avoid damage to the cornea, it is recommended to reduce the time spent using electronic devices,
and to wear sunglasses for UV protection.

that can cause difficulty focusing. Please refer to the information above.
