Composite Correction Methods for Short Nose Surgery

Among many types of rhinoplasty, some of the more difficult procedures are

short nose and upturned nose correction.

To clearly improve the tip of the nose, at least two or more

various combined correction procedures must be performed.

Therefore, by selecting and proceeding with the appropriate surgical method,

a highly satisfying surgical result.

First, let us explain the surgical methods.

Correction Methods for Upturned Nose & Short Nose Surgery

[Skin Lengthening / Cartilage Grafting]

This secures the skin space needed for tip correction,

and corrects the height of the nasal tip by grafting autologous cartilage.

It gives the tip of the nose a clear sense of height, creating an overall

high nasal line.

[Septal Extension]

Using strong septal cartilage or rib cartilage,

the tip of the nose is extended downward and/or forward.

By clearly increasing the length of the raised nasal tip,

it is made so that the nostrils are not visible.

[Columellar Strut]

Ear cartilage or septal cartilage is grafted between

the medial crura of the alar cartilage (the cartilage of the nasal ala).

It is firmly fixed so that the tip of the nose does not rise again

or droop later.

Combined Correction Procedure Types

for Upturned Nose & Short Nose Surgery

1. When tip elevation is mild

① A strong supporting cartilage is grafted between the columella to

prevent the tip cartilage from turning upward.

② After autologous cartilage is grafted to the tip of the nose, the overall

nasal line is refined.

2. When tip elevation is severe

① Using strong autologous cartilage, the length of the nasal tip is

enough extended (septal extension).

② After autologous cartilage is grafted to the tip of the nose, the overall

nasal line is refined.

How to Prevent Recurrence After Short Nose Surgery

The surgical methods mentioned above are high-difficulty procedures that

simultaneously perform surgery to lower the raised nasal tip and

correct the height of the tip of the nose.

To improve a short nasal tip, at least two or more

various combined correction procedures must be performed.

We will strive to achieve highly satisfying results after short nose surgery by

selecting and performing the septal extension procedure that lowers the raised nasal tip,

the columellar strut that firmly fixes the tip so it does not rise again,

and the skin lengthening & cartilage grafting that satisfies both the height and length
