Hello.
This is N+ , thinking only of your healthy and beautiful nose.
Today, we have prepared information about rhinoplasty precautions.
Did you know that precautions are needed both before and after nose surgery?
We will explain rhinoplasty precautions in full.

If care is insufficient before and after nose surgery, side effects may occur, so it is necessary to follow several precautions to prevent them.
Therefore, if you are preparing for nose surgery, be sure to refer to and follow these guidelines for a more satisfying rhinoplasty experience.

The precautions before nose surgery are: do not drive; use public transportation or come with a guardian; remove all accessories such as piercings, rings, earrings, and necklaces before visiting. For makeup, please come after applying only skin care products and toner. Also, do not eat or drink for 4 hours before surgery. Water, candy, and chocolate are all prohibited. In addition, you must refrain from drinking alcohol and smoking for at least 3 days before surgery. Also, please remove all nail polish and gel nails from both fingernails and toenails before visiting.

Also, as shown in the image above, since a splint is placed on the nose immediately after surgery, please prepare a shirt or a comfortable T-shirt rather than one with a tight neckline. Because swelling is severe right after surgery, it is a good idea to bring a hat in advance. A mask will be provided by our clinic at discharge, so you do not need to prepare one separately. If you wear contact lenses, be sure to bring a contact lens case.

We have prepared 8 precautions after nose surgery.
First is how to take your medication. The prescribed medication should be taken three times a day, and even if you skip a meal, you must still take the medicine. If you experience severe headaches, diarrhea, or hives after taking the medication, please contact the hospital immediately. If the pain is too severe right after surgery, you may additionally take a pain reliever such as Tylenol. Swelling/ice packs: For the first 48 hours after surgery, swelling and bruising gradually worsen, and then subside slowly over 2 to 4 weeks. Use cold compresses for 5 days after surgery, but never place the ice pack directly on the nose surgery site. It is better to apply it mainly around the eyes, both cheekbones, and the area around the nose.
For warm compresses, proceed only if you are instructed to do so by the hospital. As for posture after nose surgery, when resting for about a week after surgery, sitting upright is better for reducing swelling than lying down continuously. Also, when sleeping, keep your upper body elevated and your head higher than your heart. Do not lie on your side or on your stomach; always rest with your face facing the ceiling. You may eat all meals, but if possible, it is better to avoid spicy, salty, or otherwise irritating foods because they may worsen swelling.

For care of the surgical area, you must never remove the nasal tape, splint, or packing inside the nose on your own. Do not forcibly pick off scabs or touch wounds inside the nose. Even if the inside of your nose feels stuffy, do not insert cotton swabs or tissues directly into the nose. If the discomfort feels severe, we recommend visiting the hospital for disinfection.
For washing your face and applying makeup, until the splint and tape are removed, gently wipe only the areas excluding the surgical site with a damp towel. From the day after the stitches on the outside of the nose are removed, you may gently wipe with cleansing tissues. Washing with water is also possible, but it is best to avoid irritating the incision site as much as possible.
For at least 2 weeks after surgery, when washing your hair, do not bend your head forward; instead, lean it back while washing. It is recommended that a guardian help you or that you wash your hair at a salon. Sauna use is prohibited for one month after surgery, and nose packs, skin massages, exfoliation, and blowing your nose are all possible only after at least one month.
Exercise: Simple walks and strolling after surgery are highly recommended because they help reduce swelling. Light exercise such as stretching and yoga is possible starting 2 to 3 weeks after surgery, and strenuous exercise such as running and gym workouts is possible one month after surgery. However, since recovery speed differs from patient to patient, we recommend receiving another checkup from the medical staff before engaging in strenuous exercise.
Alcohol and smoking negatively affect bleeding, wound healing, and infection, so please avoid them for one month after surgery.

If you consistently provide home care after nose surgery, it will help speed recovery.
For self-care after nose surgery, there is cold compress massage. Starting the day after surgery (day 1), for about 2 to 5 days, apply cold compresses mainly around the eyes and both cheek areas without placing them directly on the nose. This helps prevent bleeding, reduce swelling, reduce heat, and prevent inflammation. However, if you apply a compress to the same area for more than 5 minutes, there may be a risk of frostbite, so it is better to do it in intervals of 5 minutes of compresses and 5 minutes of rest.
For those who have undergone osteotomy, nose massage can help maintain the angle of the cut bone. After removing the nasal splint, massage three times a day in the morning, at noon, and in the evening. The method is simple: relax your hands, press the osteotomy area with both hands for 5 seconds, and repeat this massage three times.
Do not apply strong pressure; just press lightly.
