#앤플러스의원 Rhinoplasty CT Scan
Hello. We are Ojigo Hospital And Plus Clinic, a clinic that thinks only about your beautiful and healthy nose.
This time, I’d like to explain why a CT scan is performed during a rhinoplasty consultation.

These days, many people get a CT scan before rhinoplasty. The reason for the CT scan is to look more clearly not only at external issues, but also at problems inside the nose when performing rhinoplasty.

Functional nose surgery, which many people undergo these days, is a surgery that improves internal nasal function issues and aesthetic rhinoplasty at the same time. Internal nasal issues include deviated septum, nasal valve stenosis, and sinusitis.

When rhinoplasty is performed, it can help confirm the size and thickness of the septal cartilage used as material for the nasal tip.

In the case of revision rhinoplasty, a CT scan is performed to obtain preoperative information, such as whether an implant was used in the previous surgery and what material was used at the nasal tip.

What is checked before performing rhinoplasty through a CT scan is

In the case of revision rhinoplasty, you can check whether an implant was used, the degree of filler remaining, the thickness of the implant used, whether septal cartilage was used, and the nasal tip cartilage and skin tissue.

If it is the first surgery, or if septal cartilage was not used, the condition of the septal cartilage, deviated septum, and nasal valve stenosis can be checked in advance.

However, a CT scan alone cannot reveal functional aspects or the size and firmness of the septum with 100% certainty.
That is why an endoscopic examination and a physical examination, where the inside can be directly looked at and palpated, are necessary to accurately confirm the condition of the nose.

For example, if the nasal mucosa is thick, even if the septal cartilage had been used before and is no longer available, it may appear as though it is still remaining. In the case of a CT scan, there can be some error because the angle of the CT scan and the angle at which air enters the nose are different, which can cause discrepancies. Therefore, even if a CT scan is performed, it is more appropriate to assess the condition of the nose comprehensively through endoscopic examination and physical examination.

Also, when consulting, people often get opinions not just from one clinic but from several clinics. In that case, they also end up having CT scans multiple times. Naturally, that can increase concern about radiation.

Fortunately, a CT scan of the face for rhinoplasty obtains only the minimum information needed, so the amount of radiation can be considered to be at the lowest dose.

For example, because it is said to be about the level of radiation exposure from a chest X-ray, having a CT scan a few times does not cause a major problem. However, excessive exposure to radiation is not good, so when choosing a clinic for consultation, it would be better to consult with only a few places.

If you consult with many places, it can also become difficult to make a decision, and because CT scans are performed that many times, radiation exposure is unavoidable. So it is best to make your decision carefully.

Today, I explained in detail the information that can be obtained through a CT scan during a rhinoplasty consultation, why a CT scan is necessary, and whether radiation is a problem. I hope this post is very helpful for those who are currently considering rhinoplasty. Thank you.
