Hello. We are OJICO N+ Clinic, which has spent the past 16 years focusing only on your beautiful and healthy nose.
The topic we prepared this time is eyes appearing closer together after rhinoplasty.

If the nasal bridge is raised, won’t the space between the eyebrows look narrower?

During consultations, there are people who worry that their eyes may appear closer together after the nasal bridge is raised in rhinoplasty.

Of course, if the nasal bridge is raised a lot,

the skin will be pulled tighter, and naturally the distance between the eyes can become narrower, which may create the appearance of eyes being closer together.

Another point is that when the nasal bridge is raised, it can be described as a visual illusion: the two eyes may appear a little closer together, or the eye area may look clearer and more open.

For example, if you place a shadow between two dots, they can appear closer together than when nothing is there.

Therefore, to prevent the appearance of eyes being too close together when raising the nasal bridge excessively, it is a good idea to check the distance between the eyebrows during consultation before surgery and decide on the height of the nasal bridge accordingly.

In general, the eyebrow distance is about 35 mm for Korean women and about 36 mm for men.

However, if there is what is called an epicanthal fold, it may actually look even closer together than it really is.

When we raise the nasal bridge during rhinoplasty, the silicone height most commonly used is around 3 to 4.5 mm, and at that level the distance between the eyes does not actually change very much.

In some cases, for people whose nasal bridge is very low, it may be raised by about 7 to 8 mm,

and in such cases the distance may in fact become slightly closer, so the eyes may appear closer together.

So if the distance between the eyes and the eyebrows is narrower than 35 mm, it is best to consider the appropriate height of the nasal bridge before surgery. During the operation, after inserting the silicone and checking whether the brows appear slightly closer together, you can lower the height from the originally planned level. Or, if you had planned to lower it because of the possibility of the eyes appearing closer together, but during surgery it turns out that there is no such effect even when it is raised, you can increase the height. Flexibility is important.

Where is the ideal starting point of the nose?

In general, the ideal height of the starting point of the nose can vary from person to person.

So, when viewed from the front, the ratio of the forehead to the nose tip is usually set at about 1:1.8,

and for people whose nose is a little long, the starting point should be set slightly lower.

If the nose is short and the overall nose length is short, not a turned-up nose, then the starting point can be set higher.

For women, when the nasal bridge is set high, it may start from the eyelashes or the double-eyelid line. If you want a natural line, it is better for the bridge to start at exactly halfway from the center of the black pupil.

Of course, for men, you can think of it as starting about 3 mm higher.

How should surgery be performed if the nose is long and the space between the eyebrows is narrow?

This is quite a difficult issue. If the nose is long and the space between the eyebrows is narrow, the starting point is first set slightly lower, so that it begins roughly around the lower eye area rather than at the double eyelid. In general, if the nose is long, it can make the face look less feminine and older, so surgery is carried out in a direction that lowers the starting point of the nose.

However, if the space between the eyebrows is especially low and the nose is long, it may be more effective to raise the eyebrow area a little while lowering the middle of the nasal bridge, creating a slight curve—in other words, moving toward a half-curved line rather than a straight bun line or a straight line—so that the nose can look younger and shorter.

That concludes our summary of the causes of eyes appearing closer together and surgical methods for those who are worried about this after rhinoplasty. We hope this helps ease some of your concerns, and we hope this article is of great help to those considering rhinoplasty. Thank you.
