Hello, I’m Dr. Jo Won-jin, and I’ve been seeing patients for 10 years.

I spent a lot of money to get Ulthera,
so why am I not seeing any results?
I was treated incorrectly, and now my cheeks are sunken..
Ulthera is known as the signature lifting procedure, but there are quite a few people who express concerns like this after treatment.
Today, under the topic of How to Properly Find a Place in Hongdae That Does Ulthera Well,
I’ll talk about why your Ulthera may not have been effective,
what to consider when deciding the number of shots,
and what to keep in mind during consultation.
Just knowing this will help you avoid regretting that the treatment didn’t work.

- Why your Ulthera wasn’t effective
Ulthera originally targets the SMAS layer.
However, for people with thicker skin and a certain amount of fat layer,
there are cases where even using the 4.5 mm tip, which reaches the deepest layer, does not produce results.
That is because the energy dissipates in the intermediate fat layer before it can even reach the SMAS layer.
The shots are used up, but the energy is not delivered to the layer that actually needs lifting, so the effect can only be minimal.

That is why you need the know-how to check the ultrasound screen in real time
and apply the right amount of pressure so the energy can be delivered deeply.
In particular, with Ulthera, the energy is delivered better when the shots are fired while the handpiece is properly filled with water.
But if the angle is not adjusted correctly, there will be sections where air gets in.
Then, even if the shots are fired, they will not be properly delivered to the skin.

Also, rather than sticking to just one tip, the tip should be changed throughout the procedure according to the skin thickness of each area,
and the energy intensity must also be adjusted so the shots can be delivered to the desired layer properly.
What matters is not “how strongly and how many shots are fired,” but “how accurately they are delivered to the correct depth.”

2. A place that evaluates the cost-effectiveness of the shots
When consulting about Ulthera, you often hear, “More shots are always better.”
But Ulthera is not a procedure where you can fire unlimited shots, and more is not automatically the right answer.
Dissatisfaction with Ulthera usually arises in two situations:
- The number of shots was too low to see results, or
- Energy was delivered to an area where it should not have gone.
Ultrasound screen. The upgraded version has much better image quality and is easier to see.
As the patient, it is difficult to know the appropriate number of shots you need.
That is why, based on numerous clinical cases and reviews,
you need to meet a doctor who honestly suggests the minimum number of shots you actually need.

In particular, for lower-face lifting, it is not simply a matter of targeting the jawline.
You need to calculate where the sagging muscles are connected and where they should be fixed for the firmest lift.
I explained this in more detail in the post below.
It is best to find a place that designs the treatment by distributing the shots as cost-effectively as possible within your budget.
To do that, it is a good idea to get consultations at two or three places.

3. A place that spends enough time on my consultation and treatment
“Can I get the procedure done today?”
You may ask that, but the reason I cannot always say yes is because of the time needed.
If you have a thorough consultation, you may find that you need a different procedure more than Ulthera,
and if the treatment is rushed because of the next appointment, both the design and the procedure become rushed.

What is worse than ineffective results when doing Ulthera is side effects such as sunken cheeks.
To prevent this, there must be enough time before treatment to listen fully to the patient’s skin concerns, analyze the face,
and plan where the energy should pass by and where it should be concentrated.
So check whether the clinic can devote enough time to focus on one patient from consultation to completion of treatment.
Careful treatment is not just a matter of kindness; it is directly linked to the safety of the treatment outcome.

I have a lot to say about this as well.
If you want to find a proper clinic for lifting, be sure to read the post below at least once.
It will greatly reduce the chance of a clinic failure.
Hongdae Ulthera, key summary
-
Does it adjust pressure according to skin thickness, change tips as needed, and deliver energy to the SMAS layer?
-
Rather than simply increasing the number of shots, does it design the treatment by finding the optimal fixation points within your budget?
-
Does it put effort into consultation and design and communicate closely with the patient to prevent side effects?

Ulthera is a process in which the practitioner and the patient work in sync.
I hope you receive treatment safely at a place that carefully examines your skin condition and strategically suggests the procedure,
and I’ll wrap things up here.
Thank you. This has been Jo Won-jin.
