Hello. I’m Dr. Jo Wonjin, and I have been practicing medicine for 10 years.

I got glabellar Botox, but my eyebrows
rose up like I was angry.
My eyes feel so heavy that I look sleepy.
When will this go back to normal?
The glabella is one of the areas with a high satisfaction rate among Botox treatments,
but at the same time, it is a sensitive area that can greatly affect your impression.
If you want to smooth only the glabella while keeping your facial expression natural,
quite a few details are needed during the procedure.
Today, under the topic of how to avoid side effects and get results from Hongdae glabellar Botox,
I will explain the three side effects of glabellar Botox, how to prevent them, and the points you need to know to improve results.

Side effect 1: Samurai eyebrows
You’ve probably heard about the samurai eyebrow appearance after Hongdae glabellar Botox, where only the outer part of the eyebrows rises sharply.
This is not simply something that happens by bad luck.
It is a typical side effect that appears when the medication spreads to surrounding muscles instead of the target muscle.

Anatomically, the corrugator muscle, which creates glabellar wrinkles,
is located deeper than the forehead muscle and is closely attached to it.
If the needle is inserted too shallowly during the procedure, the medication does not reach the deep glabellar muscle,
but instead seeps into the lower part of the forehead muscle located just above it.
This is a diagram of the glabellar muscle and the forehead muscle, and they are not separated exactly like that; instead, they are attached to each other with their outer and inner surfaces in contact.
When this happens, the glabellar wrinkles do not smooth out properly,
and the compensatory action of the forehead muscle causes only the outer ends of the eyebrows to rise sharply upward.
Therefore, even if it looks like the injection is being placed in the forehead in the same way,
it is very important to feel the thickness and position of each muscle with your fingertips for each patient
and inject by accurately targeting the deep layer.

Side effect 2: Heavy eyelids
A feeling that the eyelids become unbearably heavy after the procedure, or that the eyes do not open well,
is one of the side effects that requires the most caution during Hongdae glabellar Botox treatment.
This usually occurs through two routes.
The first is when too much volume is injected relative to your own muscle strength, causing the muscle to relax excessively.
The second is when the medication flows downward and affects the eyelid-opening muscle.
This can cause a side effect where the eyelids do not lift well.
To prevent this, rather than insisting on an excessive dose in order to get the effect properly,
it is important to set a delicate dose that can preserve your usual facial movements.
Also, the technique used during the procedure is important.
The reason I press on the lower side of the eyebrow with my other hand while injecting is for this very reason.
It creates a physical dam so the medication does not flow toward the eyelids.
These small details during the procedure greatly reduce eye fatigue after treatment.

Side effect 3: No effect
If you had the procedure but the effect is almost nonexistent, or if it doesn’t last very long, you may have received what is commonly called watered-down Botox.
It is important from the very first moment you ask about the dose for Hongdae glabellar Botox.
Botox originally comes in powder form, and it is mixed with saline before use.
But since each clinic adjusts the concentration differently, you should definitely ask before getting it.

If you are told, “We’ll inject this many cc,” ask back, “How many units (Unit) does that contain?”
But if they do not tell you the units, and the price is too cheap,
then unfortunately it may be heavily diluted, watered-down Botox.
Also, as with all procedures, the dose and placement that suit you best may not be found on the first try.

So, to increase satisfaction, rather than testing at multiple places like a nomad,
it is better to choose a clinic you can trust and receive consistent care there.
Of course, this is under the assumption that the clinic is honest and uses genuine products and proper amounts.
You need to share feedback from your previous treatment with the doctor so that this time it can be done better.

Based on previous data, adjusting the dose, injection points,
and depth to fit me exactly is an essential part of this procedure.
So, what kind of clinic can you trust?

Key summary for achieving glabellar Botox results without failure
-
Prevent samurai eyebrows: precisely target the deep corrugator muscle layer to avoid interference from the forehead muscle
-
Block heavy eyes: follow an appropriate dose without being greedy, and check the technique used to prevent diffusion
-
Maximize results: do not be misled by dilution concentration; check the amount in units (Unit) and find your own customized dose through treatment feedback

Hongdae glabellar Botox is a short procedure that takes about 5 minutes,
but within that short time, the practitioner’s anatomical understanding and delicate pressure-control know-how must all be reflected.
Please receive it safely at a place that provides careful treatment and accurate procedures based on a detailed understanding of muscle movement.
Thank you. This was Jo Wonjin.
