Hello. I’m Jo Won-jin, the head doctor at Chai Clinic, where I have been practicing dermatology in Hongdae for 10 years.

Ulthermage is quite expensive,
so what if I pay for it and don’t see results?
You may be worried about that.
Ulthermage is a powerful combination treatment, but depending on your facial condition, it can either be a waste of money or the treatment of a lifetime.
Today, based on real cases, I’ll analyze a treatment strategy that fits your face shape exactly.
Just by reading this article, you’ll be able to check whether you can expect results from Hongdae Ulthermage and what alternative treatments may be available.

The causes of aging vary; there is no one-size-fits-all answer
We all want to look younger, but the reasons a face looks older differ from person to person.
-
Sagging: skin tissue drops downward due to gravity
-
Hollowing: loss of volume in the cheeks or around the eyes makes the face look gaunt
-
Fine lines: reduced elasticity on the skin surface disrupts texture
A dramatic change appears only when the main cause is addressed first.
Simply getting the famous Hongdae Ulthermage does not mean everyone will return to how they looked 10 years ago.

- Hongdae Ulthermage customized strategies by case: Which facial type do I belong to?
CASE 1. The ‘peanut-shaped’ face with severe hollow cheeks and thin skin
If you do too much lifting when there is a lack of volume, the face can actually look even more skeleton-like.
Priority: restore volume first. Through Radiesse, Juvelook Volume, Sculptra, fillers, and similar treatments,
you need to fill in the hollow areas first so that the lifting effect that pulls sagging skin upward can be felt.
How to use Ulthera:
Even thin skin may have areas that need localized firmness.
Rather than applying high intensity across the entire face, targeting only the necessary areas with about 300 to 400 shots
is the secret to getting both cost-effectiveness and results.

CASE 2. A face with a lot of fat and heavy sagging
If facial fat is heavy and the contour has collapsed, Ulthera can be a good option.
Ulthera is especially effective for improving heavy volume in the lower face, such as the cheeks and double chin.
However, depending on how it is done, you may end up wasting shots, or it may have no effect at all.
In particular, if you have nasolabial folds, shooting many shots directly on that area does not improve deep wrinkles.
Instead, the lifting effect comes from focusing the treatment on the upper cheek area where sagging occurs.
Please refer to the article below for more details.
Effect: Ulthera slightly reduces the fat layer while strengthening the SMAS layer and promoting collagen production in the dermis.
Strategic choice:
If you are worried about pain, you can partially replace the effects of Ulthermage with a device called Thermage.
Using Thermage as the main treatment and supplementing only the lacking areas with 300 Ulthera shots can greatly reduce pain and treatment burden.
If you are a treatment beginner in your 20s or 30s, or if sagging is not severe,
starting with a lighter treatment such as Shrink and observing how your skin responds is also a wise approach.

CASE 3. A line-sagging face where the jawline is collapsing and a double chin is beginning to show
The volume has not decreased, and the skin is relatively thick, but only the lower face (jawline, double chin, neck) has collapsed.
Priority: targeted treatment in the affected area is more efficient than a full-face package.
How to use it:
Ulthera acts on the SMAS layer at a depth of 4.5 mm below the epidermis,
so focusing the treatment on the jawline, double chin, and front neck line gives a noticeable improvement in contour.
For people with thicker skin, a combination of Ulthera alone + Botox (jawline) can be reasonable without necessarily adding Thermage at the same time.

- The risks of self-prescribing: Why shouldn’t you choose a treatment without diagnosis?
These days, many people study treatments before coming in.
However, self-combining treatments like “Ulthera at hospital A, fillers at hospital B”
can be risky if you undergo procedures without a proper diagnosis.
If the synergy between treatments is not considered, the overall balance of the face can be disrupted.
You may also end up receiving several treatments at once even though there was a much more efficient option, wasting both money and time.
So the proper way to choose is:
receive an accurate consultation for your concerns and proceed with a comprehensive analysis in one place.

- Ulthermage is not recommended for these people
To be honest, it is not a treatment I recommend for everyone.
-
People with severe volume loss who only want lifting (the face may look even thinner)
-
People with active inflammation or acne in the treatment area
-
People in their early 20s with almost no sagging
-
People with severe sagging who need thread lifting or a lifting procedure

That said, for people with fine lines and significantly reduced elasticity,
Thermage alone may also be an option.
Closing remarks
Hongdae Ulthermage can be a life-changing treatment if it suits you, but an expensive experience if it does not.
What makes the difference is not the device itself, but the judgment of “what is the priority in my face’s aging,
and what intensity and sequence should be used.”

Based on what I summarized in today’s article, try a self-check in front of the mirror once,
and if it is difficult to decide, I recommend getting a comprehensive diagnosis at one clinic.
One consultation that sets the right direction is far more valuable than one treatment.
Thank you. This was Jo Won-jin.
