Hello. I’m Wonjin Jo, the medical director of Chai Clinic, where I have been providing dermatological care in Hongdae for 10 years.

“Botox is all the same anyway.
Can’t I just get it somewhere cheap?”
“I’ve had it before, but it didn’t work.”
Botox is such a common procedure that it is easy to think, “It’s all the same.”
However, depending on how it is administered, you may either achieve the desired results or spend six frustrating months dealing with unexpected side effects.
Today, I’ll honestly explain how to choose a clinic in Hongdae so you do not regret getting Botox just because it was cheap.

Choose a good Hongdae Botox clinic based on these three criteria
1. The misconception that “it’s the same wherever you get it”
Even with the same Botox, the factors that determine the result are not the product itself, but the treatment design and dosage.
The muscles in our face pull against one another. If one muscle is paralyzed, another connected muscle may compensate by working harder.

As shown in the photo above, the forehead and glabellar muscles are connected and exert pulling forces upward and downward.
If this principle is ignored and injections are administered mechanically, the effect may be reduced and unintended side effects may occur.
Botox remains in the treated areas for three to six months, so if it is administered incorrectly even once, you generally have no choice but to wait for it to wear off.
In addition, everyone has different muscle thickness, strength, and left-right balance.
This means that the appropriate dosage for one person in the same treatment area could be excessive for another.
So the result depends not on whether “it’s the same everywhere,” but on whether the treatment is tailored after examining your face.

You may regret getting Botox at places like these
First, places that only state the dosage in “cc.”
You may have seen advertisements such as “Skin Botox — special price per ~cc.”
Cc only refers to the amount of liquid mixed in and is not directly related to the effect.
The actual amount of toxin may be absurdly small—in other words, it could be excessively diluted Botox.
If it is diluted too much, the effect may be inadequate, requiring more frequent treatments and increasing the risk of resistance.
If the effect wears off quickly because the product was overly diluted, you may end up visiting the clinic more often, which ultimately costs more in the long term.
It may have looked cheap, but it was not actually inexpensive.

Second, places that inject uniformly without considering muscle interactions.
For example, if only the forehead muscles are paralyzed, the glabellar muscles that pull the eyebrows downward continue to exert force, which can make the eyes feel heavy and uncomfortable.
If too much is injected only at the outer ends, it can create samurai eyebrows.
Likewise, if the masseter muscles are reduced too aggressively at once, the temporalis muscles may compensate by working harder, causing compensatory hypertrophy that makes the temples bulge.

Third, places that inject the same dosage on both sides without examining left-right differences.
If you have a habit of chewing on one side, the muscles on each side may be different in size. Injecting the same amount on both sides can make the asymmetry more noticeable.
An asymmetry that was already present may become more apparent after the procedure.
You can find information about side effects of masseter Botox and ways to prevent them in the article below.
Choose a good Hongdae Botox clinic based on these three criteria
1) Do they design the treatment one-on-one based on muscle interactions?
Before the procedure, the doctor should personally examine and palpate your facial muscles and assess your balance, for example:
> “The forehead muscles are weak, so I should also address the glabellar muscles.”
>
> “The jaw muscles are strong, so I should consider the temporalis muscles.”
If a consultant handles the consultation and someone else administers the injections, it may be difficult for the treatment to accurately reflect the original design.

As shown in the photo above, I personally examine and palpate every patient’s face and explain what may be needed. This is how we arrive at an accurate assessment of their skin concerns and determine the appropriate solution.
2) Do they disclose the dosage in units rather than cc?
During your consultation, ask, “How many units will be used for each area?”
For example, skin Botox typically uses at least 40 units for the entire face.
If the clinic does not clearly disclose the number of units and the price is unusually low, it may be excessively diluted Botox, so it is worth questioning this.
An honest clinic discloses the dosage as it is, without misrepresenting it.

3) Do they keep records and provide consistent care?
Because Botox is often administered repeatedly, clinics that record previous dosages and results in your chart and make fine adjustments at subsequent visits tend to achieve better results.
The next treatment can be better tailored only if the doctor considers whether the effect wore off too quickly last time or whether your facial expressions looked unnatural.
This is why building up records at one clinic is advantageous compared with moving between multiple clinics.
In summary
For Hongdae Botox, choosing a clinic that designs the treatment honestly and discloses the dosage—not simply the cheapest clinic—is the way to reduce the chance of regret.
Of course, some people are satisfied even after receiving treatment at high-volume clinics.
However, rather than wasting money on a treatment that does not follow the criteria above and produces no effect, I believe it is ultimately more beneficial to seek a safer, longer-lasting result in one treatment.

Before deciding based solely on price, be sure to check these three points. I also recommend discussing during your consultation whether Botox is the right choice for your face and which areas and dosages would be appropriate.
If this is your first Botox treatment and you do not know which areas to treat, you may also read the article below before going for a consultation.
Thank you. This was Wonjin Jo.
