Hello. I am Wonjin Cho, the director of Chai Clinic, where I have been providing dermatological care in Hapjeong for 10 years.
I heard that Serf is cheaper than Thermage.
Are the results similar?
I received it because I heard it was painless,
but I don't think there has been much change.

Serf is a radiofrequency tightening treatment that tightens the skin. Because it is less painful than Thermage while producing similar effects, it is also referred to as a cost-effective Thermage alternative.
However, if you choose it simply because it is somewhat cheaper, it may not suit your concerns, and you may not achieve the results you expect.
Today, before receiving Serf in Hapjeong, I will explain who is likely to see results and the criteria for choosing a clinic that performs the treatment well.

- What kind of treatment is Serf, and who can benefit from it?
Serf is a treatment that raises the temperature of the dermal layer using radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen regeneration.
It belongs to the same radiofrequency tightening category as Thermage.
The important point here is that radiofrequency is not a lifting treatment that “pulls the skin upward,” but is specialized in tightening the skin and making it feel firmer.
It is therefore particularly effective for improving fine lines caused by thinning skin, reduced elasticity, and rough skin texture.

On the other hand, if excess fat has sagged significantly, such as in the jowls, or if you have deeply etched nasolabial folds, a treatment that lifts the tissue may be more suitable, such as Ultherapy or thread lifting.
As shown in the photo below, the reason Serf can have a lifting effect is that
thermal energy reaches the fat layer and produces a tightening effect.

The right cheek can be seen lifting immediately after the treatment, with the nasolabial fold appearing reduced. However, this is an immediate response. Over the course of several months, collagen regeneration gradually takes place, resulting in tightening.
It differs somewhat from Ultherapy, which primarily targets the fascial layer.
Ultherapy reaches a layer deeper than the fat layer and tightens the fascia.
(That is why Ultherapy's lifting effect can be considered more pronounced.)

Serf and Thermage belong to the same radiofrequency category, so their principles are similar.
Because Serf is available at a more reasonable cost,
it can be a less 부담스러운 option for those trying radiofrequency tightening for the first time or wanting light texture and elasticity care.
In other words, Serf tends to provide greater satisfaction not to “everyone,” but to people who need tightening.
It is generally a good fit for people whose skin has begun to thin and who are becoming concerned about fine lines and pores, as well as those without significant sagging who want to improve the firmness and texture of their skin.

As shown above, Serf can deliver energy to multiple depths. This means that several layers can be targeted.
Conversely, if you receive it simply because you have heard that “everyone likes it,” you may spend both money and time only to find that your actual concern remains unchanged.
Therefore, before choosing the name of a treatment, you should first determine whether your concern falls within the area that tightening can address.
- What to check before choosing it because it is inexpensive
First, you should determine whether your concern is something Serf can address.
If sagging is the cause but you receive only tightening, you may spend the money without seeing satisfactory results.
If your facial contour becomes noticeably more defined when you gently lift the outer cheek in front of a mirror, sagging is likely the main cause. In many such cases, you should also consider ultrasound-based lifting treatments, such as Ultherapy or Shurink, or thread lifting, which physically lifts the tissue, rather than relying on radiofrequency alone.

Second, check whether the number of shots and the energy level are sufficient.
With radiofrequency treatments, an initial number of shots is used to warm the skin and raise its temperature. The shots delivered afterward are the effective shots that contribute to collagen regeneration.
If you receive the treatment at a low price with too few shots, it may end after only the warming phase, resulting in a limited effect.
Therefore, rather than simply focusing on the number of shots, you should consider whether enough effective shots remain after accounting for the warming phase.

Types of Serf tips
- Use these three criteria to choose a good clinic for Serf in Hapjeong
- Does the clinic honestly assess whether Serf is right for you?
It is best to choose a clinic that can realistically explain whether you need tightening or whether lifting would be more appropriate, and what kind of results can be expected.
That is why I always emphasize that you should choose a clinic with multiple devices that can recommend a combination suited to you.
If a clinic has only a few devices, its recommendations must be limited to those options, so your choices will inevitably be much narrower.
I have explained this in more detail in the article below.
- Does the clinic allow sufficient time for each patient's consultation and treatment?
Check whether the energy is adjusted in detail according to each area.
To do this, sufficient consultation and treatment time must be reserved for each patient.
If many consultations and treatments are scheduled back-to-back, or appointments are double-booked, it becomes difficult to pay attention to the details of the treatment.
The clinic has to finish quickly and move on to the next patient.
This is why we also avoid scheduling appointments too tightly.

- Does the clinic recommend an appropriate number of shots while considering the effective shots?
Because this is not an inexpensive lifting treatment, some people want to try it with a smaller number of shots.
Although using fewer shots may make it easier to secure an immediate purchase,
laser lifting only has meaning when it actually produces results.
It is also important not to push an unnecessarily large number of shots.
However, if it is obvious that “this amount is unlikely to produce results,” the medical professional should explain that accurately.
It may be better to recommend a different treatment within the same budget.

In closing
A low price is certainly attractive, but receiving an unsuitable treatment at a low price ultimately becomes the most expensive choice.
Therefore, you should consider “whether it suits my concern” before the price.
In summary, for Serf in Hapjeong, satisfaction is likely to be higher when you choose not “the cheapest clinic,” but a clinic that assesses whether the treatment is right for you and provides it sufficiently and safely.
I recommend seeking a consultation at a clinic that provides a thorough and honest consultation and recommends a treatment suited to you.
Thank you. This was Wonjin Cho.
