Hello, I’m Lee Seong-jun, Chief Director of the Seoul branch of LITING Plastic Surgery.
Our eyes are a very important factor in shaping our impression.
As we age, the eyelids droop and the shape of the eyes changes, which can alter the overall impression.
A soft and clear look can change 180 degrees into an expression that looks sleepy, tired, or even angry.
And if you are going through such changes, it can inevitably become a major source of stress in daily life.
Because aging and skin sagging are inevitable changes in human beings, we believe that concerns about lifting will continue without end across all generations and cultures.
That is also why LITING Plastic Surgery continues to study and develop lifting procedures with greater dedication.

Types of sagging-eye lifting
There are many different types of lifting.
And depending on the degree and location of skin sagging, as well as age, the appropriate method may differ.
Among them, the main lifting surgeries that can help correct sagging eyes are upper blepharoplasty and forehead and eyebrow lift.
Upper blepharoplasty is a procedure that pulls on the levator muscle of the upper eyelid to improve the cause of eyelid sagging, correct the shape of the eyes, and provide functional improvement by securing the field of vision.
After designing the incision line based on whether or not there is a double eyelid crease, the loosened skin, fat, and orbicularis oculi muscle are removed, and the skin and levator muscle are precisely sutured to create a clear eye shape.
In the case of an eyebrow lift, the incision is made near the eyebrow rather than on the eyelid. It differs from upper blepharoplasty in that if the distance between the eyebrow and the eye is narrow, the incision is made above the eyebrow, and if the distance is wide, the incision is made below the eyebrow.
The extent of the incision may vary depending on the degree of skin sagging and wrinkles.
Depending on which area is sagging, the application site may vary, such as the forehead or eyebrow.

Upper blepharoplasty is not everything.
Some people think that a forehead and eyebrow lift may make it difficult to hide the scar because it does not artificially create a double eyelid line.
But that is not the case.
In an eyebrow lift, the scar is concealed along the eyebrow line, and in a forehead lift, the scar is hidden along the hairline, so it is not very noticeable.
Even so, many people first look into lifting for sagging eyes and then decide on upper blepharoplasty because they feel that double eyelid surgery is a little less burdensome than these lifting procedures.
Of course, if upper blepharoplasty is suitable for the eyes, then that is what we would do. But in some eye shapes, an eyebrow lift may be more effective than double eyelid surgery from a medical perspective.
In such cases, we explain why it would be more helpful and recommend it.

What is an eyebrow lift?
As mentioned, an eyebrow lift is a method of making an incision below the eyebrow, removing unnecessary upper eyelid tissue, and suturing it to lift the sagging upper eyelid skin.
Because it preserves the existing double eyelid crease, it is especially helpful for people whose original crease and eye shape were attractive.
It is easiest to think of it as opening a closed curtain.
If you already have a beautiful double eyelid crease but undergo double eyelid surgery simply because you do not like the eyelid sagging and the crease being buried, the original eye shape itself can change.
Also, even if you undergo upper blepharoplasty, if the eyebrows and forehead sag and press down on the upper eyelids, the double eyelid line can become thick again, creating a stronger and harsher impression.
That is why we recommend an eyebrow lift for people who want to keep their original eye shape while making the existing double eyelid line look open and firm.

A forehead lift that creates synergy
However, an eyebrow lift may reduce the width of the upper eyelid area.
And if this area becomes narrower in middle age or later, it can create a stronger impression.
If an eyebrow lift is appropriate for the eyes, but the upper eyelid area is expected to become narrower after surgery, it may be helpful to perform a forehead lift at the same time to also pull up the forehead.
A forehead lift not only reduces forehead wrinkles but also naturally lifts and tightens the entire upper face, helping create a brighter and more refreshing impression, and it can produce a synergistic effect together with an eyebrow lift.
A place capable of precise design
This type of forehead and eyebrow lift may require different methods depending on the balance of the individual’s facial features, skin condition and thickness, degree of sagging, atmosphere, and overall image.
That is why it is important to find a clinic with extensive clinical data and a refined sense of design.
Our clinic has focused only on lifting.
Because we have studied and performed lifting procedures in various forms, including surgical and nonsurgical lifting, we are able to create precise, customized designs for each person, and with our extensive surgical experience, we can accurately predict the postoperative course and deliver satisfying results.

A deep understanding of the skin
Above all, we have an excellent understanding of the skin.
In particular, a forehead and eyebrow lift is not simply about pulling the skin upward; the skin and muscles must be carefully dissected and lifted.
This is because that allows for natural movement and increases fixation strength.
And what determines that stability is the SMAS layer of the skin (the fascial layer), and outcomes vary depending on how well this fascial layer is dissected.
In fact, this fascial layer has not been widely known to the academic community for very long, so it is still an actively studied area.
Because our clinic studies and performs only lifting procedures, we have a deep understanding of the fascial layer and retaining ligaments, allowing us to dissect and lift precisely and carefully to create stable results.
